Role: Research Officer
Operations & Royalty Distributions | PRS for Music
Music wouldn’t exist without the work of songwriters, composers, and publishers. We represent them and ensure their work is fairly rewarded. As a world-leading organisation, PRS for Music continues to innovate after over a century in the industry.
The Operations & Royalty Distributions department is pivotal in managing the entire process of distributing royalties to its members, including quarterly and monthly distributions. Additionally, there are opportunities to influence distribution policy and process reviews while delivering record-breaking payouts to PRS members.

As Research Officer, your core duties will include:
- Analysing and interpreting data to identify inconsistencies or errors, proposing constructive resolutions
- Conducting target-driven, high-volume research on music licensing data under rigorous quality standards
- Maintaining proficiency in repertoire matching, updating, and creating works, cues, and productions in PRS for Music systems

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
