Operations & Royalty Distributions | Research Officer
Overview
Music wouldn’t exist without the work of songwriters, composers and publishers. We’re here to represent them and ensure they are paid for their contributions. After over a century in the industry, we continue to innovate as a world-leading organisation.
The Operations & Royalty Distributions department is crucial in managing the end-to-end process of distributing royalties to members—both through the main quarterly distributions and smaller monthly distributions. Through a collaborative and inclusive approach, this team works closely with teams across the business to:
- Calculate available revenue for distributions
- Match music usage data with licensed revenue
- Perform control checks to ensure accuracy and completeness
There’s also an opportunity to be involved in distribution policy decisions and operational process reviews.
Responsibilities
As our Research Officer, your key duties will include:
- Analysing and interpreting data, reporting inconsistencies/errors with constructive outcomes
- Conducting high-volume research into music data reporting, meeting strict quality standards
- Processing operations proficiently, including repertoire matching, and updating/creating works, cues, and productions in PRS for Music’s systems
- Following best practice to guarantee efficient and accurate payments to members
- Meeting strict distribution deadlines while achieving departmental targets for productivity and quality

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
