Advisory Lawyer – Public Procurement

Join our market-leading Public Procurement team at Addleshaw Goddard. Ranked Band 1 (UK-wide) in Chambers for 19 consecutive years, our team advises on some of the UK's most significant and innovative procurement projects across government, transport, utilities, healthcare, defence and regeneration. This is an excellent opportunity for an advisory (non-contentious) lawyer to build specialist expertise, work alongside recognised experts, and develop their career in a supportive and collaborative environment.

About the Role

Advise public authorities, utilities and contracting partners on a broad range of procurement matters, including:

  • Procurement strategy
  • Direct awards
  • Contract modifications

Responsibilities

  • Draft and review procurement documentation, including:
    • Notices
    • Selection questionnaires
    • Invitations to tender
    • Related contractual documents
  • Support clients through the design and delivery of procurement exercises, providing practical legal advice throughout the process
  • Advise bidders during procurement processes, assisting with:
    • Tender submissions
    • Procurement-related queries
  • Collaborate with our specialist procurement disputes team, supporting procurement challenges where required
  • Work with colleagues across sectors including:
    • Transport
    • Utilities
    • IT
    • Outsourcing
    • Construction
    • Real estate
    • Defence
    • Complex, multi-disciplinary projects
  • Build client relationships
  • Contribute to business development activities
  • Continuously develop your technical expertise and professional profile

Requirements

  • A qualified lawyer with approximately 1–5 years’ post-qualification experience
  • Experience of (or a genuine interest in) public procurement and/or utilities procurement law, preferably gained within private practice
  • Strong:
    • Legal research, drafting and analytical skills
    • Attention to detail
  • A collaborative team player with excellent:
    • Communication skills
    • Client relationship skills
  • Commercially aware, proactive, and committed to:
    • Delivering outstanding client service
    • Developing specialist expertise
