The Procurement Manager role
As the Procurement Manager at Pure Pet Food, your work gives our business the right materials—at the right quality, price, and time—to keep our operations running smoothly and our doors open for growth.
Duties & Responsibilities
You will champion the end-to-end procurement function, owning strategy, supplier relationships, cost optimization, inventory health, and supply chain resilience. Here’s how:
1. Procurement Strategy
- Develop and implement a data-driven procurement strategy.
- Drive cost reduction without compromising quality.
- Establish long-term supplier partnerships aligned with business growth plans.
- Enable new product launches by sourcing critical inputs efficiently.

2. Supplier Management & Performance
- Source, evaluate, and onboard suppliers meeting quality, compliance, and ethical standards.
- Oversee supplier performance via KPI-based scorecards and targeted audits.
- Lead negotiations for pricing, payment terms, contracts, and service levels.
- Foster innovation and supplier improvement while escalating performance shortfalls.
- Monitor critical metrics:
- On-Time-In-Full (OTIF)
- Quality performance
- Complaint levels
- Lead time consistency
3. Cost Management
- Meet cost-saving targets through rigorous benchmarking and risk mitigation.
- Anticipate market inflation and reprice strategies proactively.
- Benchmark supplier pricing to drive competitive advantages.
- Work with Finance to optimize working capital and analyze purchase price variances (PPV).
4. Inventory & Supply Planning
- Collaborate with Planning to ensure reliable material availability.
- Reduce lead times and reliance on emergency purchasing.
- Minimize obsolescent stock through proactive demand forecasting.
5. Risk Management
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks, including:
- Geopolitical disruptions
- Dependency on single sources
- Contingency strategies
- Review supplier resilience and support business continuity planning.
6. Compliance & Ethical Sourcing
- Ensure suppliers meet food safety, feed safety, ethical, sustainability, and Modern Slavery regulations.
- Monitor supplier approvals, audits, and compliance failures.
- Partner with QA and Operations to resolve non-conformances.
7. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work seamlessly with:
- Planning
- Operations
- Quality
- Product Development
- Finance
- Ensure alignment between procurement and business-wide priorities.
8. Continuous Improvement
- Standardize procurement processes and establish performance metrics.
- Advocate for ERP and system upgrades wherever they enhance efficiency.
- Push for process automation to reduce manual inertia.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Proven track record as a Procurement Manager.
- Strong negotiation skills with a track record of cost savings.
- Supplier relationship management and performance improvement experience.
- Advanced analytical aptitude paired with numeric decision-making skills.
- Proficient in Excel, ERP, and MRP systems.
- Stakeholder communication and management expertise.
Desirable
- Food manufacturing, FMCG, or pet food industry experience.
- Expertise in demand planning and inventory optimization.
- Evidenced knowledge of import/export and international sourcing practices.
