Senior Subcontract Manager (Procurement) – Bolton
Location: Bolton (hybrid 2-3 days on-site)
Salary: Circa £48,000 depending on experience
Security Clearance: British citizenship or dual UK nationality required. Successful candidates will undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks post-offer.
The Opportunity

In our Major Equipment Procurement (MEP) department, you’ll collaborate across borders to steward subcontracts throughout their full lifecycle, from tendering to delivery.
Working with global suppliers, you’ll take an active and hands-on role in:
- Strategic subcontract management: Lead end-to-end execution of critical defence subcontracts, ensuring alignment with time, cost, and quality targets. Drawn from an array of industries—UK, European, and international partners—these supplier relationships enable MBDA to achieve excellence.
- Risk and opportunity: Safeguard MBDA’s commercial position by identifying and mitigating commercial and business risks while capitalising on strategic opportunities.
- Commercial guidance: Provide technical and tactical support to internal customers, translating requirements into formal agreements.
- Supplier collaboration: Nurture strong vendor partnerships, enabling robust intelligence-gathering for future business endeavours.
- Compliance: Oversee amendments to maintain compliance with contracting standards and legislation.
Key Responsibilities
Core Activities
- Specify, solicit, evaluate, and award subcontracts—whether with existing partners or via competitive tender.
- Monitor and report on supplier performance, ensuring adherence to contractual obligations in line with global defence standards.
- Travel as required to UK, European, or international sites to assess supplier capabilities face-to-face.
Critical Functions
- Negotiateonces with suppliers and support MBDA’s commercial goals.
- Develop targeted strategies to reduce costs, improve timeframes, or enhance quality.
- Monitor regulatory environments and adjust subcontracts per latest legal guidelines.
- Collect and disseminate market intelligence to inform future bidding strategies.
