As a Construction Materials Buyer, reporting to the Director of Procurement Operations, you will be responsible for managing the procurement process for construction materials required on project sites. Your mandate will include receiving and processing purchase requests from superintendents and regional coordinators, issuing purchase orders, ensuring compliance with administrative procedures, and maintaining ongoing communication with suppliers. You will also be involved in identifying new suppliers and innovative products, negotiating commercial terms, optimizing corporate agreements, and consolidating purchases to maximize the company’s purchasing power. In addition, you will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to ensure material availability, support project schedules, and maintain adherence to established procurement procedures.

What you will do

  • Receive purchase requests from superintendents and regional coordinators.
  • Procure construction materials for project sites.
  • Issue purchase orders and ensure compliance with all related administrative procedures and standards.
  • Obtain the necessary approvals for purchase orders.
  • Research innovative products and identify new suppliers within the assigned province.
  • Monitor backordered or out-of-stock items, reconcile delivery slips against purchase orders, and support invoice approval processes.
  • Request and evaluate supplier quotations.
  • Coordinate transportation of materials when required.
  • Collaborate with procurement specialists to optimize corporate supplier agreements.
  • Consolidate purchases to maximize purchasing leverage and/or establish annual supply agreements.
  • Negotiate credit terms and payment conditions with local suppliers.
  • Follow established ISO procedures and procurement processes.

This role could be for you if you have

  • More than 3 years of experience in procurement for construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of the construction materials industry.
  • Knowledge of civil engineering/construction work is considered a significant asset.
  • Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly autonomous with the ability to manage urgent and time-sensitive requests.
  • Strong ability to take on challenges and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
