Business Support Assistant - Procurement
Fixed-term contract until 31/03/2027
- Closing date: 07 July 2026
- Position: Fixed-term
- Salary: £24,796 – £25,185 per annum (pro rata if applicable)
- Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week)
- Leave: 25 days’ annual leave (excluding bank holidays)
About the Role
You’ll provide general administrative support to the Procurement Service at Somerset Council.
The Commercial and Procurement Team is seeking an ambitious individual to work within a complex and dynamic team, ensuring the delivery of a prompt, sustainable and professional service to internal customers.
As an Administrator, you’ll play a crucial role in the Procure to Pay process and supporting the Council’s Procurement strategy. Your tasks include liaising with Procurement professionals and internal stakeholders to facilitate compliant purchasing, ensuring adherence to external legislative requirements and internal governance standards.

Key Responsibilities
- Demonstrate initiative, organisation and prioritisation skills in delivering administrative support to Procurement.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of service activities and provide a responsive support function.
- Perform general administrative duties, such as:
- Compiling and revising documents
- Preparing materials for presentations
- Coordinating diaries
- Taking minutes of meetings
- Work with accuracy, identifying and correcting errors where necessary.
- Serve as the first point of contact, providing information to clients, suppliers, and the public.
Essential Requirements
Knowledge, Experience & Skills
- Sound IT proficiency, including Microsoft 365 understanding.
- Experience in an administrative role, within a collaborative team environment.
- Experience communicating with the public via:
- Face-to-face interactions
- Telephone conversations
- Emails and letters
- Confidentiality handling of sensitive information.
- Minute-taking experience.
- Familiarity with client management systems and spreadsheets.
- Minimum of:
- NVQ Level 2 equivalent, OR
- 5 GCSEs, with Grade 4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- Strong organisational skills, including:
- Prioritising conflicting demands
- Working flexibly
- Ability to:
- Follow agreed processes for consistency
- Deliver high standards of accuracy
- Meet deadlines
- Fluent spoken and written English (as per the UK Immigration Act 2016).

- This position covers fixed-term maternity leave until 31/03/2027.
