EdgeComply is a London-based CE marking consultancy for manufacturers. We act like an outsourced compliance team, helping achieve CE marking for products ranging from consumer electronics to heavy machinery.

Most clients are based in the US, Canada, the UK, and Europe.

About the Role

  • Consultant / Freelance | 🌍 Remote

We're hiring a Product Compliance Consultant with deep expertise in product regulations for industrial products, including machinery, electrical equipment, and other industrial equipment.

You must have a strong understanding of the following regulations and directives:

  • Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/123
  • Low Voltage Directive 2014/35/EU (LVD)
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive 2014/30/EU (EMC)
  • Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU (RED)

Additionally, you must have a robust understanding of the wider product compliance landscape that impacts clients, including:

  • Chemical compliance, such as RoHS and REACH
  • Technical documentation
  • Risk assessment methodologies

Beneficial (but optional) knowledge:

  • ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU
  • Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU (PED)
  • Personal Protective Equipment Regulation (EU) 2016/425 (PPE)

Your Responsibilities

As a Product Compliance Consultant, you’ll typically work alongside a project manager and help ensure our clients' products achieve CE marking. Your work will include:

  • Compliance Research: Identify applicable regulations and standards for a given product category
  • Gap Analysis: Leverage existing compliance paperwork by clients to minimize testing and timelines
  • Risk Assessments: Perform and compile robust risk assessments in collaboration with clients
  • Label & Manual Review: Review product labelling and user manuals to ensure they meet all relevant compliance requirements
  • Technical File Compilation: Compile compliance Technical Files and advise clients on how to maintain them
  • Testing Plans: Develop practical testing strategies with our lab partners

What You Are Measured By

  • Accuracy: Regulatory research is thorough and precise. You don’t miss details, and you catch what others overlook.
  • Advice Quality: You deliver pragmatic, business-aware recommendations, balancing strict compliance with the commercial realities clients face.
  • Reliability: You meet deadlines consistently and communicate proactively to keep projects on track.

Who You Are

  • Experienced Compliance Professional: 5+ years of hands-on product compliance experience with deep knowledge of product regulations across a wide range of consumer goods.
  • Resourceful & Research-Driven: Comfortable diving into new product types, unfamiliar standards, or niche regulatory questions with speed and confidence.
  • Client-Smart: You understand the commercial context and give advice that balances compliance with business practicality.
  • Clear Communicator: You write clearly, structure your deliverables well, and can explain complex compliance matters in plain English—verbally and in writing.
  • Meticulous by Default: You naturally notice the small details others miss and hold yourself to a high standard of accuracy.
  • Remote-Ready: You have a reliable, professional setup for remote work and are available for video calls during working hours.

Logistics

This is a fully remote, freelance role (10–20 hours per week) with the option to transition into a full-time position (optional). You'll work mostly asynchronously and independently, with the flexibility to structure your day.

However, we expect:

  • Timely communication during your regular working hours
  • Availability for occasional video calls with the team or clients
