Product Configuration Lead

Simple Machines builds digital platforms for enterprise clients, helping them translate complex business needs into scalable software solutions. As Product Configuration Lead, you will take ownership of how business configuration is designed and delivered across the products we build. You'll work closely with client stakeholders, product managers, and engineers to understand business requirements and translate them into effective system configuration. You'll define clear standards for how configuration should be structured and governed, support delivery teams and users in applying those standards, and step in to resolve more complex challenges when they arise. By staying close to platform usage and client feedback, you'll help shape product direction, improve adoption, and ensure configuration delivers measurable operational and commercial value. What You'll Be Doing: Work as a consultant to our clients, helping business teams design and build the configuration required within the software products Simple Machines delivers Act as the organisation's subject matter expert on configuration tooling and ways of working Partner with Product Managers and Engineers to translate business requirements into scalable, well-governed configuration solutions Build strong relationships with a wide range of business stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor on how configuration should support their use cases Mentor and support client and internal teams in configuring systems effectively and independently Troubleshoot complex configuration challenges, investigating root causes across system logic, data, and platform behaviour Guide the development of next-generation and agent-driven configuration capabilities, ensuring automation and AI-enabled features are safe, usable, and aligned to business needs Influence product roadmap priorities through configuration insight, client feedback, and operational learnings Drive adoption and effective use of configuration capabilities across client and delivery teams

Requirements

What We're Looking For: Core Experience Experience leading the configuration in enterprise systems, particularly systems supporting Marketing or Commercial activities in a business Strong background working with configurable digital platforms or enterprise SaaS products, supported by a solid technical understanding of how systems are designed and operate Experience improving configuration within complex, multi-team enterprise systems Proven ability to operate effectively between business stakeholders and development teams, translating requirements into scalable platform solutions Experience working closely with client stakeholders and operational users to drive adoption and effective platform usage Exposure to end-to-end product development and lifecycle management, from discovery through to delivery and optimisation Demonstrated leadership in maturing configuration capabilities, standards, and ways of working across teams or organisations

Nice to Have Experience working in consulting or client-facing delivery environments Exposure to large-scale digital transformation initiatives and complex platform rollouts Understanding of data models, APIs, and system integrations that support configurable platforms Experience scaling and operationalising self-service configuration capabilities across teams Exposure to AI or machine learning-driven products and an understanding of how configuration supports decisioning or automation
