Product Developer (RTW)

Reporting to: Senior Product Development Manager Location: VBL HQ – Hammersmith, London

Role Overview

Supporting the Senior Product Development Manager, the Product Developer (Ready-to-Wear) bridges in-house and factory sampling processes, spearheading the development of categories including Soft Separates and our Fully Factored Jersey programme.

The role extends through the development lifecycle, from initial design conception to production handover of finished product.


Responsibilities

Collection Development

  • Codify styles within assigned Product Categories.
  • Create and maintain Tech Packs.
  • Track development from initial sketch to:
    • Proto/SMS production
    • Handover to the Tech Team
  • Regular follow-ups with Manufacturers and Atelier to monitor timelines and deliveries for design reviews, technical fittings and production handover.
  • Develop seasonal trims aligned with categories or specific suppliers.
  • Attend: Sketch/Style launches, technical fittings, and handover meetings for relevant categories.
  • Liaise across VBL teams, Factories, Suppliers, and Head of Product Development to ensure accurate translation of technical specs and Design alignment in prototypes/SMS.
  • Coordinate with Fabric Team to manage deadlines/supplier notifications on delays.
  • Proactively resolve technical problems and anticipates industrialisation needs early to streamline Bulk Production.
  • Request technical sheets to validate garment component feasibility.
  • Propose garment finishes with Designers and Pattern Cutters, balancing aesthetic ambition and target price.
  • Stay attuned to innovative technical finishes and production methods.
  • Represent desired finishes/aesthetic to factories throughout sampling/development.
  • Ensure necessary counter samples and tests (e.g., dry-cleanability for trims, contrasts, pleats) are completed.
  • Research new supporters/manufacturers with niche technical/handle requirements.
  • Cultivate strong manufacturer/supplier partnerships.

Pricing & Costing Management

  • Monitor across all Product Categories to refine techniques, trims, and finishes.
  • Track and communicate technique costs, ensuring viability for Production.
  • Create Volume Projection Orders (VPOs) and update Budget Trackers.
  • Ensure timely receipt of garments and correct pricing for fittings, meetings, reviews.
  • Supervise shipments to/from factories.
  • Input Bills of Material into Zedonk/PLM Systems for assigned categories.

Essential Skills & Requirements

  • Proven Product Development experience in Fully Factored and Cut Make Trim (CMT).
  • Proactivity: Analytic overview of entire collection across categories.
  • Strong grasp of Product Costing and Profit Margins.
  • Highly organised, with attention to personal workspace and collaborative spaces.
  • Self-motivated, with unwavering adherence to timelines and deadlines.
  • Fluency in:
    • Microsoft Office
    • Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) platforms.
