Our client, a major player in the food product manufacturing industry in the UK, is looking forward to welcoming a talented product development professional to their team in the North East of England as they see continued growth.

Purpose

To develop new products and improve existing ones in response to customer requirements, delivering commercially viable solutions that can be successfully scaled into production. Build strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality product launches are delivered on time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver products within agreed timelines and budget.
  • Support the innovation strategy by contributing to product development pipelines, assisting with project scoping, and actively participating in innovation workshops and idea-generation sessions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for product development activities, building proactive and collaborative relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure products are technically feasible, aligned with customer requirements, and compliant with relevant business strategies, policies, and industry standards.
  • Lead product presentations during feasibility and project review meetings.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to resolve technical or process challenges, ensuring products can be successfully scaled for manufacture while meeting sustainability objectives.
  • Develop and maintain product formulations that achieve required quality standards, commercial objectives, and agreed product specifications.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate product development documentation throughout the development process.
  • Conduct comprehensive product benchmarking and present findings effectively to both internal and external audiences.
  • Demonstrate a strong passion for food, maintaining an up-to-date understanding of consumer preferences, market developments, and emerging food trends.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Consistently produce accurate, high-quality work and information.
  • Complete tasks efficiently, meeting agreed deadlines and project milestones.
  • Recognise and escalate issues appropriately to support effective decision-making and project delivery.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of raw material specifications, manufacturing processes, and production requirements.
  • Confidently facilitate product feasibility reviews and communicate recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify practical and commercially viable solutions.
  • Build the technical knowledge and confidence to independently develop and refine product formulations.
  • Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or a related discipline (desirable).
