Product Development Assistant

Product Development Assistant – West Midlands (Hybrid)

Location: West Midlands Type: Full-time, Hybrid Salary: Competitive salary + 50% staff discount on product range


About the Role

We’re partnering with an established B2B beauty business, seeking a Product Development Assistant to support their NPD (New Product Development) Manager. This is an exciting early-career opportunity for someone with limited prior experience, but with strong organisational skills, a passion for beauty, and strategic thinking.


The Role

Product Development Support

  • Collaborate on concept-to-launch development
  • Coordinate product briefs, samples, specifications, and timelines
  • Liaise with suppliers to request:
    • Samples, costings, and lead times
    • Packaging details (physical, digital, regulatory)
  • Track sample requests, approvals, and feedback in a structured system
  • Maintain and update product development trackers and timelines

Quality Control

  • Support quality checks on new and existing products:
    • Packaging, labelling, and batch consistency
    • Presentation and compliance with approved samples
  • Flag any discrepancies and ensure clear record-keeping of QC issues

Product & Brand Administration

  • Manage product specifications, including:
    • Barcodes, descriptions, pricing, and supplier documentation
  • Handle packaging, labelling, and artwork administration
  • Analyze product performance:
    • Sales data
    • Stock status
    • Discontinued/slow-moving product ranges

Cross-Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with Sales, Purchasing, Operations, Compliance, Education, and Brand teams
  • Assist with onboarding new brands by coordinating product, supplier, and compliance details
  • Gather insights from market research, competition, and customer feedback to support new ideas
  • Attend UK exhibitions for Trend spotting, supplier sourcing, and industry networking

About You

  • Passionate about beauty, cosmetics, and product innovation – no formal background required!
  • ** structual precision** and strong organisational skills
  • ** Clear communicator**, comfortable liaising directly with suppliers
  • Ability to multitask, prioritise tasks, and meet tight deadlines -Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Reliable, proactive, and self-motivated with a significant sense of responsibility for tasks

Previous experience in product development, buying, QC or beauty-related roles is a plus – but not mandatory.
