Job Description: Product Development Engineer

Role type: Full-time, permanent

Location: Cambridge, with travel to Cardiff/ other EAF sites as required

About Reclinker

Reclinker is a fast-growing climate-tech startup transforming cement recycling. Our technology is centred on making cementitious products using steelmaking electric arc furnaces (EAF), using our proprietary co-production process. We are preparing to launch our first product to market and are entering a critical phase of rapid scale-up in both production capacity and commercial traction.

Role description

We are hiring a Product Development Engineer to support the development and deployment of Reclinker’s EAF-derived cementitious products as we bring our first product to market and scale production.

This role focuses on translating research and technical concepts into practical, commercially viable solutions. You will coordinate product development activities, manage projects and timelines, and work closely with operations, research teams, and external partners to ensure successful delivery.

Working alongside the CTO and research team, who will provide technical leadership and guidance, you will help drive products and processes from laboratory development through pilot trials and industrial deployment.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across disciplines, bringing structure to complex projects, and turning innovative ideas into real-world outcomes.

You will report to our Chief Product Officer (Pippa Horton), and work closely with research, engineering, and operations teams to deliver successful product outcomes.

Key responsibilities

Product & process development:

  • Support the development and optimisation of Reclinker's existing and next-generation EAF-derived products.
  • Coordinate activities required to move products from laboratory research through pilot trials to industrial deployment.
  • Work with the CTO and research team to translate technical findings into development plans and implementation activities.
  • Support the scaling of processes and products with EAF operators and other partners.

Project Management & Delivery

  • Manage development projects, ensuring activities are delivered to agreed milestones and timelines.
  • Maintain project plans, risk registers, and action trackers.
  • Coordinate work across research, operations, engineering, and commercial teams.
  • Identify risks, dependencies, and opportunities, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Support site trials and deployment activities.

Research integration & innovation

  • Facilitate communication and knowledge sharing between research and operational teams.
  • Coordinate experimental programmes and support data collection and reporting.
  • Maintain technical documentation and ensure lessons learned are captured.
  • Support techno-economic assessments and business case development.

Stakeholder Management

  • Work effectively with EAF operators, research organisations, and external partners.
  • Support customer engagement, pilot projects, and technical due diligence activities.
  • Assist with evaluating future deployment opportunities and new sites.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Project management qualifications are beneficial but not required.

Knowledge and experience:

  • Experience supporting or managing engineering, manufacturing, process, or product development projects.
  • Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders and managing competing priorities.
  • Exposure to industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Experience working with external partners or customers.
  • Familiarity with project management tools and methods.
  • Experience in steelmaking, cement, concrete, or process industries would be advantageous but is not essential.

Skills and abilities:

  • Excellent organisational and project management skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Able to understand technical concepts and work effectively with subject matter experts.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.
  • Structured and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Collaborative, with the ability to work effectively across research, engineering, operations, and commercial teams.
  • Data-driven mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
