Product Engineer

Product Engineer – Engineering Department

Reporting to: Product Engineering Team Leader


About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Engineering department at Howmet Exeter for a Product Engineer.

The role offers the chance to:

  • Develop a deep understanding of Engineering processes
  • Drive meaningful impact on operational excellence
  • Contribute to product engineering best practices across the organisation

Purpose

The ideal candidate will:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain best-in-class product engineering practices
  • Reduce process-related scrap and rework
  • Provide technical support for high-quality casting production in line with customer specifications
  • Optimise cost-effective manufacturing of components and processes
  • Manage programmes and execute engineering projects

Key Responsibilities

Desired competencies include:

Technical & Process Improvement

  • Apply expertise in production planning, control and manufacturing systems
  • Utilise CAE tools for CNC machining, CAD, and 3D modelling
  • Deploy quality tools for practical applications (e.g., RCA, FMEA)
  • Execute Six Sigma/DMAIC methodologies to troubleshoot manufacturing issues
  • Implement continuous process improvement with dimensional controls

Production & Cost Management

  • Support high-quality casting production per customer requirements
  • Drive cost reductions through workflow optimisation and waste elimination
  • Ensure consistent delivery of castings that meet specification standards
  • Prepare qualification reports, scrap analyses, and rework summaries

Collaboration & Communication

  • Build clear, effective communication with customers, internal teams, and suppliers
  • Present data-driven insights via visual aids to diverse stakeholders
  • Foster a collaborative team environment that aligns with departmental goals

Technical Projects & Compliance

  • Manage individual part programs, ensuring efficiency and compliance
  • Maintain adherence to safety standards and a safe working environment

Requirements

Experience & Education

  • 4+ years of applicable engineering experience, covering multi-disciplined principles
  • Degree/HNC (or equivalent) in Engineering discipline
  • Proficiency in six-sigma methodology, lean manufacturing, and ABS frameworks

Technical Skills

  • CAD tool experience (preferably for tooling design)
  • Working knowledge of injection moulding or ceramic processing
  • Proficient in MS Office, MS Project, and MRP systems

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail with a meticulous approach
  • Effective presentation skills for Q&A engagements
  • Exceptional organisation, planning, and teamwork
