Product Functional Test Mechanical Technician
Location: Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom Employer: Cummins Inc. Job Type: Permanent (37.5 hours per week) Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, On-Site (100% in person)
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Product Functional Test Mechanical Technician to join our Engineering team at Cummins in Huddersfield, specialising in comprehensive product testing and mechanical component analysis.
Key Responsibilities
In this critical engineering role, you will:
- Prepare, assemble, and dismantle test articles—including initial build, instrumentation installation, and final teardown—following strict engineering standards.
- Conduct detailed component analysis in the After-In-Service (AIS) area, examining warranty returns from supporting Business Units.
- Screen warranty claims using mechanical and electronic test tools to identify failure modes, conducting structured parts evaluations.
- Collaborate with Global technical teams to reconvey tested components for detailed failure analysis and assessment alignment.
- Align failure modes with Global engineering standards, working closely with Service Engineers, while documenting results accurately in Customer Care Information Management Systems (CCIMS) or similar databases.
- Execute product testing per established procedures, ensuring test integrity through proper setup, instrumentation, and validated equipment usage.
- Set up, maintain, operate, and troubleshoot test stands, rigs, and fixtures, including regular upkeep for reliability and readiness.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of test equipment and product operations to achieve accurate, repeatable results.
- Continuously review and improve analysis processes to meet customer, quality, and efficiency targets.

Required Skills & Experience
To excel in this role, you must have:
Technical Proficiency
- Hands-on experience with Cummins component products, strong knowledge of mechanical and electronic test tools for warranty claims evaluation and failure mode identification.
- Proficiency in diagnostic and reporting tools, including:
- Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
- Internal databases (e.g., CCIMS)
- Cummins Service Tools: INSITE and Calterm
- Strong Microsoft Office skills.

Education & Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent secondary education qualification.
- Intermediate-level technical knowledge, obtained through education, training, or hands-on STEM experience.
Note: Work is 100% on-site with no flexibility for remote duties. A relocation package is not offered.
