I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we're looking for
You have 3–5 years of product management experience, ideally within B2B fintech, financial services, or regulated platforms You’ve worked in Agile environments and know how to write requirements that developers can actually use You’re comfortable with both API and file-based integration patterns — you understand REST API design and consumption, and you’ve worked with batch file processes (SFTP, CSV) of the kind that large financial institutions depend on You think about UX at every layer, not just the interface — from how an API response is structured to how an end user moves through a flow You're customer-obsessed — you dig into the why behind requests, not just the what You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and iterating from there You take ownership end-to-end. If something falls through the cracks, you notice and fix it You can hold a lot in your head — understanding how features interact with systems, compliance constraints, and partner needs simultaneously You communicate with precision and adapt your style to the audience — whether that’s a technical lead, a compliance team, or a C-suite contact at a large institution You’re highly organised — you track open threads, manage multiple workstreams simultaneously, and nothing falls through the cracks on your watch You have experience managing enterprise or institutional clients — you understand how large organisations make decisions and know how to build trust while keeping delivery moving
