About the Role
This role focuses on the Product Manager for Operational Pharmacy Systems, where you will:
- Develop and optimise internal systems that power Chemist4U’s Pharmacy Hub, including dispensing workflows, inventory management, and compliance tools.
- Use a blend of product management expertise, pharmacy operations knowledge, and Agile methodologies to boost efficiency, ensure compliance (e.g., GPhC standards), and improve patient outcomes.
- Collaborate with pharmacists, developers, and stakeholders to drive digital transformation across operational processes.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Vision
- Define and articulate the product vision for pharmacy systems, aligning with business goals for scalability, compliance, and patient safety.
- Develop a roadmap for system enhancements, prioritising features based on business impact and user needs.
- Lead market research and competitor analysis in pharmacy tech, including AI-driven dispensing and real-time inventory solutions.
Backlog Management
- Own the product backlog, creating clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and technical requirements for systems such as:
- Dispensing software
- Barcode scanners
- Compliance dashboards
- Implement data-driven prioritisation, balancing stakeholder input, regulatory requirements (GPhC, MHRA), and operational bottlenecks (e.g., peak-time delays).
- Refine backlog items with the development team to ensure clarity and feasibility within Agile sprints.

Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with the Head of Product, dispensing teams, customer services, and operations managers to gather requirements and validate system functionality.
- Work with external partners (e.g., NHS, private prescribers) to ensure seamless prescription integration.
- Communicate progress, risks, and roadmaps to senior leadership, securing buy-in for key initiatives.
System Development & Delivery
- Lead Agile development teams (developers, QA, UX designers) to deliver system releases in focus sprints while maintaining high quality.
- Attend and facilitate sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Oversee user acceptance testing (UAT) with Pharmacy Hub staff to verify compliance needs, including:
- GDPR secure data handling
- GPhC dispensing accuracy standards
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure systems adhere to GPhC Standards for Registered Pharmacies (e.g., secure data handling, accurate dispensing records) and other regulations (Medicines Act 1968, UK GDPR).
- Implement features to mitigate risks, such as:
- Alerts for high-risk medicines (e.g., valproate)
- Controlled drug audits
- Collaborate with the compliance team to address inspection findings (e.g., GPhC, MHRA).
Performance Monitoring
- Define and track KPIs for system performance, including:
- Dispensing error rates
- Inventory accuracy
- Processing times
- Gather staff feedback post-release to identify pain points and prioritise improvements.
- Use analytics tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to monitor adoption and impact, reporting insights to leadership.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential Criteria
- Bachelor’s degree in:
- Business, healthcare, technology, or a related field
- 5+ years of product management experience, ideally in:
- Healthcare, pharmacy, or operational systems
- Strong understanding of pharmacy operations, including:
- Dispensing workflows
- Inventory management
- Compliance workflows
- Experience with NHS prescription workflows and private prescribing.
- Proven Agile experience (Scrum or Kanban) in end-to-end product lifecycles.
- Familiarity with:
- Backlog tools (Jira, Azure DevOps)
- Data-driven prioritisation
Desirable Criteria
- Certification in:
- Agile/Scrum (PSPO, SAFe POPM)
- Product management (Pragmatic Institute)
- Basic knowledge of:
- Data analytics
- UX design principles
