Product Owner
Hybrid – 1 day in Chester and the other 3 days from any Hub.
12 month contract. Inside ir35.
Job Description
This is a 12-month assignment focused on delivering a specific programme of work. The successful candidate will join a team with a mix of experience levels and an onshore/offshore operating model, with business-led resources based in Chester.
The role will act as the day-to-day Product Owner for the team and will be responsible for two key workstreams.
- First workstream: Already underway and involves revamping the customer identity verification process for credit card applicants. While the current process is functional, it is outdated and requires improvement. The role will work closely with internal resources within the lab, as well as other teams across the business, to deliver a new and enhanced identity verification solution.
- Second workstream: Will run in parallel and focuses on expanding Instant Credit capabilities. The functionality already exists for certain existing customers, and the objective is to extend this to new customers and applicants. The goal is to enable customers applying for a credit card to receive immediate approval and gain instant access to available credit.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

While the identity verification project is already in progress, the Instant Credit initiative will be built from the ground up.
This is a highly technical and strategically important role within the bank, centred around delivering a bespoke solution. The successful candidate will effectively act as the "mini Managing Director" for these initiatives, taking ownership of delivery, stakeholder management, and overall programme success.
Although the assignment is expected to last up to 12 months, the ideal scenario would be to complete the work by the end of Q1 next year.
