What To Expect

The Product Owner (Finance Transformation) is a key member of the Technology Product Team at POL, accountable for driving the successful evolution of POL’s core finance system whether through a major upgrade of the existing platform or the implementation of a new solution.

This role is responsible for the day-to-day product management of the CFS (Core Finance System) initiative and will work closely with internal finance, data, transformation and procurement teams, as well as external delivery partners. The Product Owner will lead the definition, documentation, and prioritisation of user stories, including the creation of clear and detailed acceptance criteria.

A critical part of this role is ensuring that development teams, integration workstreams, and third-party suppliers can deliver to an agreed transformation roadmap and a phased roll-out plan covering design, build, testing, migration, and deployment activities.

Acting as a key member of the CFS transformation team, the Product Owner will take a leading role in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, reviews and retrospectives. They will also work closely with wider programme teams to help manage dependencies, support integration across key business processes, surface risks and issues early, and highlight opportunities to accelerate progress. Regular updates will be provided to the CFS steerco and programme team, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.

The Product Owner will model Post Office behaviours and take a Finance first mindset - ensuring the needs of Finance users, Postmasters, and wider business stakeholders are at the forefront. The role includes managing the transformation backlog and supporting the creation of a forward-looking roadmap beyond initial implementation into optimisation phases.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
