Product Owner – Financial Services
Location: London
Working pattern: Hybrid – 2–3 days per week onsite
Contract: Inside IR35
We are seeking an experienced Product Owner to take ownership of a product backlog covering multiple features, customer journeys and technology components within a large, regulated organisation.
You will shape the product vision and roadmap, translate customer and business needs into clear user stories, and ensure delivery teams remain focused on the priorities that generate the greatest value.
Key responsibilities
- Own, prioritise and continuously refine the product backlog.
- Define the product vision, roadmap and objectives at team level.
- Develop clear user stories and acceptance criteria based on customer and stakeholder needs.
- Support the development of team OKRs and track product performance, outcomes and benefits realisation.
- Work closely with engineering, design, customer journey and business teams.
- Lead backlog refinement, sprint planning and other Agile product ceremonies.
- Make informed prioritisation decisions across customer value, risk, cost and technical feasibility.
- Oversee product governance, risk management and business-readiness activities.
- Coordinate testing, communications, training and implementation readiness.
- Manage dependencies across teams, platforms, suppliers and wider change programmes.
- Engage senior stakeholders, communicate product decisions and build alignment around priorities.
- Coach and mentor colleagues while supporting the development of product capability.

Required experience
- Strong commercial experience as a Product Owner within a complex enterprise environment.
- Proven ownership of backlogs covering multiple features, journeys or technology components.
- Strong Agile delivery experience across Scrum and/or Kanban.
- Advanced experience using Jira and Confluence.
- Excellent user-story definition, backlog management and prioritisation skills.
- Experience shaping product visions, roadmaps, OKRs and performance measures.
- Strong customer focus with the ability to use insights to improve products and journeys.
- Experience managing product risks, controls, governance and dependencies.
- Confident stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Strong decision-making, critical-thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Financial services, banking or another regulated-industry background is highly desirable.

Desirable experience
- Ownership of a group-wide technology product or platform.
- Experience working closely with engineering teams on technical products.
- Product budgeting, financial analysis and benefits-realisation experience.
- Supplier strategy, environment planning or technical design exposure.
- Experience delivering large-scale business or technology transformation.
