Product Owner

We are currently recruiting for a Product Owner who plays a central role in shaping and prioritising the digital products and services that support our organisation's mission. This role is essential in strengthening our digital infrastructure within a remote-first environment.

This role strengthens our digital capability by ensuring that our tools and platforms are user-centred, well-structured, and aligned with our mission. A dedicated Product Owner improves efficiency, reduces development bottlenecks, and ensures that digital products genuinely support volunteers and communities. Their work directly enhances organisational impact, operational clarity, and long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities And Deliverables

  • Define, prioritise, and refine the product backlog in collaboration with the delivery team.
  • Engage with users to understand their needs, preferences, and pain points.
  • Communicate product goals and updates clearly to users, sponsors, and the delivery team.
  • Make prioritisation decisions based on user needs, organisational goals, and technical feasibility.
  • Develop and maintain Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) and use cases to ensure clarity and consistency in product development.

Essential Requirements (must-haves)

Experience and knowledge

  • Demonstrable passion for social enterprise, sustainable development, and the volunteer sector.
  • Relevant practical experience in a product-focused role.

Core Skills And Competencies

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex ideas.
  • Ability to empathise with users and understand their needs and challenges.
  • Strong collaboration skills across diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to make informed prioritisation decisions balancing user needs, business requirements, and technical constraints.
  • Basic analytical skills to interpret data and inform product decisions.

Digital Workplace Requirements

  • Basic digital literacy and reliable internet connection

Proficiency with

  • Gmail and Calendar
  • Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides)
  • Video conferencing and messaging tools

Desirable Skills And Experience (nice-to-haves)

  • Familiarity with product management tools such as Jira, Asana, or Trello.
  • Experience working in a remote or digitally-focused team.
  • Experience in the non-profit or volunteer sector.

What will you be doing?

We need the volunteer to lead the product development process by defining and prioritising the product backlog, gathering user insights, and ensuring that digital products are aligned with organisational goals. The volunteer will act as the bridge between users, stakeholders, and the delivery team, ensuring clarity, direction, and consistency throughout the product lifecycle.
