Product Performance Lead

At GSK’s flagship manufacturing site at Ware (Hertfordshire) we are now looking for a Product Performance Lead to manage a team responsible for the local delivery (at the Ware site) of the technical lifecycle Plan. This role sits within the site’s Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) department. The responsibilities of the role include monitoring and managing the product performance of all active substances and commercial products across the Ware manufacturing site.

You (and your team) will respond to issues requiring investigation, identifying opportunities for product and process improvements, to enhance product performance, reduce cost and improve efficiency within the value streams.

This role reports to the Site MSAT Director and is critical to the definition of strategic projects for all commercialized products, in conjunction with the global Manufacturing Science and Technology (MSAT) Molecule Stewards.

Team Direct Reports: You will manage (and motivate) a team of circa 4 people (Product Owners).

Key Responsibilities (include..):

  • Managing the team to ensure that Site Safety, Quality Compliance and GPS are part of the every day within the team.
  • Developing and managing a high performing team of Product Owners to successfully discharge the product related, risk, change and knowledge management responsibilities associated with all value streams across the site.
  • Accountable for local delivery of the technical lifecycle plan (TLCP) owned by Molecule Stewards, and Co-Leading the global PTLTs to ensure aligned strategy for the organisation on platform and process capability.
  • Manage the team to identify strategic opportunities for product or process improvements, to enhance product performance, reduce cost, or improve efficiency.
  • Provide leadership for the rapid resolution of technical issues impacting supply and product performance investigations. Provide efficient, effective and compliant technical support. Ensure technical issues are investigated fully to root cause at pace, and CAPA are agreed and implemented to agreed timelines to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Matrix management across GSC & R&D to support product control strategy translation to shop floor (batch instructions, standard work etc), utilizing the principles of the GSK Production System (GPS).
  • Promote and monitor technical standards throughout the site and ensure they are adhered to.
  • Ensure appropriate systems to track, trend and analyse product and process performance are in place, in use and effective, taking advantage of digital advances to improve monitoring/analysis.
  • Proactive Talent Management, including succession planning and capability build within the MSAT team and active support of the GSC graduate programme and Industrial Placement Programme.
  • In-depth knowledge of cGMP and Global Regulatory requirements and ensure that GMP, Quality, Health and Safety processes are adhered to by all reports.

About You:

This role would suit a highly motivated person who has strong experience of managing in a technical cross-functional, global supply organisation. You will have strong technical knowledge obtained from working in a highly-regulated industry. You will have demonstrably strong people skills, be resilient and calm under pressure, have a strong continuous improvement mindset, and a proven ability to drive performance while managing multiple stakeholders.

About Ware Manufacturing Site:

Medicines at Ware are presented as either Respiratory devices or in Oral Solid Dose form. The site holds a unique position in our network as the only site responsible for launching the company’s pipeline of new medicines in these dose forms, many of which are life saving medicines. A series of investments in new state-of-the-art equipment are being made that will support the delivery of a record number of new products.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience (e.g.; understanding and experience of managing complex technical scenarios related to manufacturing).
  • Relevant qualifications (to Degree level) in Scientific, Technical, or Engineering discipline.
  • Relevant experience driving improvement via a lean methodology and change management including strong communication.
