The Opportunity We are seeking a Product Safety Engineer to support the safe development, integration and delivery of complex engineering systems. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in identifying, assessing and managing product safety risks across the engineering lifecycle, ensuring that safety requirements are embedded from concept through to disposal. About the Team The Product Safety team is responsible for ensuring that complex, mission-critical systems are developed and operated safely throughout their lifecycle. Working alongside Technical Authorities, Systems Engineers and Design Teams, you will help shape safety strategies and provide assurance for cutting-edge technologies. This role offers the opportunity to influence design decisions, challenge conventional thinking and contribute innovative solutions across a diverse and evolving portfolio of engineering projects. Joining a collaborative team of safety professionals, you will play a vital role in safeguarding system integrity while supporting the successful delivery of advanced engineering programmes. Key Responsibilities Support Technical Authority teams in the identification, assessment and management of hazards, risks and associated mitigations. Contribute to the development, maintenance and continuous improvement of hazard logs and associated safety documentation. Assess product safety strategies and safety arguments for major subsystems and complex technologies. Produce high-quality safety deliverables, including safety cases, hazard logs, risk assessments and safety management plans. Organise and facilitate Hazard Identification (HAZID) workshops, safety reviews and risk assessment meetings. Collaborate with Technical Authorities, Design Teams and Safety Engineers to gather and maintain evidence supporting safety case development and acceptance. Ensure product safety activities comply with applicable customer, industry and regulatory standards. Provide safety engineering guidance and challenge where required to support robust decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. Skills & Experience Strong understanding of safety management processes, methodologies and techniques. Experience working across multiple phases of the engineering lifecycle, with a solid understanding of systems design principles and through-life engineering considerations. Knowledge of relevant defence and safety standards, such as: DSA-02 JSP430 DEF STAN 00-56 MIL-STD-882E BS EN 61508 Familiarity with the principles and application of Safety Management Systems. Experience producing high-quality technical documentation and formal safety deliverables. Experience of Product Safety within software-intensive systems would be advantageous. Degree-qualified in Engineering or a related STEM discipline. Professionally registered Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng), or working towards professional registration through a recognised institution.
