Product Safety Manager

Salary: £53,000 - £57,600

Purpose of the Job

The Product Safety Manager will report directly to the Quality Assurance Manager, but have direct access to relevant Accountable Manager(s) for matters related to the organisation’s product safety performance against its policy and objectives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Executing all Safety Management System (SMS) investigations
  • Serving as the primary guidance source for site leadership regarding SMS
  • Acting as the company’s nominated post-holder for direct interaction with regulatory authorities (CAA, EASA, etc.) on SMS-related matters

Responsibilities

Principal Accountabilities:

The Product Safety Manager’s primary role includes:

  • Facilitating hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk management
  • Monitoring the implementation of actions from the safety action plan (unless handled by an independent monitoring function)
  • Providing periodic reports on product safety performance to the safety review board
  • Ensuring the maintenance of safety management documentation
  • Ensuring access to product safety training that meets standards, including a suitable training plan for all employees
  • Offering advice on product safety matters
  • Initiating and following up on internal investigations of occurrences
  • Engaging with regulatory authorities (CAA, EASA) and other stakeholders on SMS-related matters

Qualifications & Criteria

Essential Requirements:

  • Higher National Certificate (HNC) or equivalent qualification in a business or engineering discipline
  • A minimum of 5 years of quality experience in an industrial or engineering environment, including relevant supervisory or leadership experience
  • Proficiency in Quality Management Systems with a good understanding of Safety Management Systems

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience with direct engagements with customers and regulatory bodies
  • Hands-on knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS)
  • Relevant experience in an aerospace engineering environment
