Product Support Engineer – Rail Location – Mobile (Bristol focus)

Location: Bristol Work Arrangement: Full Time – Shifts (2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off) Reporting: Supervisor, Site Team Leader, or Team Leader (role-dependent)

The Role: Product Support Engineer

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on mtu rail products, adhering to approved manuals and contractual requirements while embracing digitalisation.
  • Perform both preventive and corrective maintenance tasks in line with schedules, manuals, and operational instructions.
  • Proactively engage in continuous improvement initiatives for maintenance procedures:
    • Provide general suggestions for enhancement.
  • Oversee planned maintenance activities in accordance with contract-specific guidelines.
  • Attend and participate in customer meetings to obtain sign-off for maintenance work conducted on customer equipment.
  • Diagnose and rectify complex faults using technical drawings and fault-finding guides.
  • Complete, submit, and review all relevant documentation to accurately record company and customer activities.
  • Actively participate in HSQE management processes (Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental).
  • Keep onsite facilities clean and well-maintained.
  • Attend local and factory training courses to keep skills current.
  • Operate in a 24/7 shift-based system, including potential callouts.
  • Work as a mobile engineer (van provided) and cover shifts at other depots as needed.
  • Accurately report parts used during servicing to ensure stock control and inventory accuracy for the company’s IT systems (e.g., GoCare, C4S, eWeb, GoManage, Go, Diasys, Outlook).

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential:

  • An engineering background.
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Engineering.
  • Self-motivated, with a strong emphasis on safety and methodical work practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, email).
  • Ability to gather technical information quickly and remember details.
  • On-the-job training provided for SAP and MTU Business Portal.
