About IPSD (Industrial Power Systems Division)
Within Caterpillar, the Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests, and manufactures state-of-the-art engines (ranging from 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins), powering applications across:
- Marine
- Petroleum
- Industrial machinery
- Electric generators
- Locomotives
Through four core pillars of sustainability, Caterpillar remains proactive in exploring green energy solutions for the future.
Key Responsibilities
The Product Technician serves as the technical expert for product quality, ensuring expert-level application of standards, build requirements, and quality expectations across the entire manufacturing process.
Collaborating with Operations, Test, Quality Engineering, Process Engineering, and Customer Support, you’ll provide critical technical expertise to:
- Investigations, issue resolution, and continuous improvement activities
- Engineering change and trial support
- Proficiency in enhancement, troubleshooting, and validation

Core Tasks & Responsibilities
- Advise stakeholders on internal combustion engines and transmissions, ensuring compliance with mechanical engineering principles.
- Function as product subject matter expert, clarifying build standards, requirements, and specifications for accuracy.
- Support quality investigations by assessing how products should be constructed, function, and perform.
- Participate in stop-to-fix activities, diagnosing defects and technical issues on the production line.
- Work closely with Operations and Test teams to resolve build concerns, defects, and test failures.
- Conduct root cause investigations, combining product knowledge with technical insights.
- Assist in validating corrective actions, ensuring proposed solutions meet customer and product requirements.
- Support product trials, engineering changes, and improvement projects, leveraging specialised expertise.
- Maintain product-focused awareness of specifications, drawing requirements, changes, and build standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve quality, consistency, and manufacturability.
- Act as an essential bridge between manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams.
Who You Are – Requirements
We’re looking for individuals with:
- Strong technical knowledge of manufacturing processes
- In-depth understanding of internal combustion engines and mechanical engineering principles
- Outstanding communication skills, enabling seamless collaboration across diverse teams
- Proactive approach to problem-solving
