Our team is based at our Head Office just outside The Peak District National Park off jct28 of the M1 corridor.
Position:
Great opportunity to join our Team as Product Technologist!
You will take ownership of product quality across the Rab apparel range, ensuring all products are engineered, constructed, and manufactured to the highest standards of quality, performance, and fit-for-purpose functionality, while meeting critical delivery timelines.
Key Responsibilities of Product Technologist (including but not limited to):
- Multi product experience within outdoor equipment and apparel
- Prepare seasonal development tracker and ensure all outputs are scheduled in-line with Buy calendar
- Receive style handover from Product development, post SMS
- Working with the buying department to have visibility of capacity planning
- Create Production Tech Pack / Prepare and maintain accurate technical specifications
- Send out SMS specs for carry-over styles/new colours
- Prepare and confirm packaging details (i.e. carton quantity, size, packaging materials etc)
- Vendor resourcing after SMS (as required)
- Work with overseas supply manufacturers to process product from SMS through to production
- Support the Asia QC team in ensuring Quality Standards are in place before start of production
- Make sure that our standards are delivered through manufacturing stages
- Action Size Set / Receive Size set - Fit & Comment
- Bulk Trim Approval - Trim, Thread, Embroidery, Print
- Update & Translate Wash care information
- Durability Wash Testing - additional testing following the SMS hand over from PD
- Action PP Sample / Receive PP Sample - Fit & Comment
- Approve style for Bulk Production - Send Production Spec
- Ad-hoc carry out AQL inspections when the product lands within the UK warehouse
- Partner with Equip China QC team to drive improvements in supply base
- Update BC for "in-season" updates/changes/fabrics on carry-over styles
- Own SMU pre-production/production process
- Own FUU (Fabric use up) pre-production/production process
- Customer Returns - Analysis/Actions
- Fit/Block Maintenance – Storage of Production patterns
- Overseas travel / QC Inspection Trips to Vendors (as and when required)
- Product compliance requirements, ensuring all products meet relevant legal, regulatory, safety, quality and customer standards

Requirements:
To join us as a Product Technologist you must have:
Essential
- Degree or equivalent experience in Product Technology, fashion or textiles
- In-depth knowledge of all aspects of product construction
- Full understanding of garment specification (building specs, adjusting, grading)
- Full understanding of QC process & procedures (AQL inspections and reporting)
- Good knowledge of the fitting process and grading size specs
- Understanding of the pattern making process
- Knowledge of manufacturing
- Experience of reviewing test reports and good understanding of performance standards
- Excellent planning and organisational skills to manage the pre-production approval process with suppliers in line with the Buy calendar
- Strong Microsoft Office IT skills including Word, Outlook and Excel at Intermediate level
- Excellent communication skills, highly enthusiastic, with ‘can-do’ attitude
- Very high attention to detail with the ability to accept and meet critical deadlines

Desirable
- Previous experience of outdoor Product/apparel clothing in a similar sector/industry
- Experience of working for a brand or retailer
- Previous experience working with overseas factories
- Hands-on factory experience
- Demonstrates a good understanding of product compliance requirements, ensuring all products meet relevant legal, regulatory, safety, quality and customer standards
- Personal interest in outdoor performance clothing
