Position Overview
The Product & Tooling Engineer is responsible for leading and supporting regional product engineering and tooling initiatives across manufacturing operations. This role focuses on the introduction of new aluminum products, lightweighting programs, and tooling-related capital projects while providing technical expertise in high-speed metal forming processes. Working closely with manufacturing, engineering, toolroom, and supplier partners, the position drives product performance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across production facilities.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Support and manage capital projects related to new product introductions in existing facilities and new plant builds, including cost estimation, product specifications, tooling requirements, and project execution.
- Lead lightweighting initiatives for existing aluminum containers by evaluating product designs, developing tooling specifications, coordinating procurement activities, and tracking project deliverables.
- Assess the feasibility, cost, and business benefits of new product developments and product optimization opportunities to support strategic planning activities.
- Provide technical support for aluminum product performance, process capability, tooling functionality, and manufacturing operations through on-site and remote troubleshooting.
- Analyze product and process data using statistical methods and quality tools, including SPC, Six Sigma methodologies, and Minitab, to identify trends, drive improvements, and resolve technical issues.
- Conduct product testing and validation activities using in-process and finished goods measurement systems to ensure compliance with quality and performance specifications.
- Partner with operational teams to improve product quality, manufacturing efficiency, material utilization, and overall operating performance through process and tooling enhancements.
- Support toolroom standardization and continuous improvement initiatives by developing best practices, conducting audits, and implementing corrective action plans.
- Drive supplier quality and performance improvements through tooling inspections, supplier audits, and ongoing supplier quality management activities.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, training materials, and operating procedures to support global tooling and product engineering best practices.
- Maintain and enhance engineering development databases, systems, and related documentation.
- Travel to manufacturing facilities as required to provide hands-on technical support, project implementation, and troubleshooting assistance.

What are we looking for?
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical design, CAD, manufacturing, or a related engineering environment.
- Minimum 2 years of experience managing engineering or manufacturing-related projects.
- Experience supporting manufacturing processes, tooling systems, product development, or capital equipment projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Demonstrated ability to scope projects, manage timelines, coordinate stakeholders, and deliver project objectives.
- Working knowledge of materials engineering, manufacturing processes, and metal forming operations.
- Understanding of tooling design principles, technical drawings, and bill of materials (BOM) management.
- Experience using data analysis and problem-solving methodologies, including statistical tools and continuous improvement techniques.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Willingness to travel to regional manufacturing facilities as required.

Job Details
- Job Grade: Global Grade 10
- Work Environment: This role offers flexible work arrangements.
- Hiring Range: 40,500 – 58,320 EUR gross per year. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and market benchmarks. Depending on these factors, the actual offer may fall above or below the posted range.
- Incentive Plan: This position is eligible to participate in Ball’s annual incentive compensation program.
