Production Administrator – SUMITOMO ELECTRIC UK POWER CABLES LTD.
Desired start date: August/September 2026
Role Purpose
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Production Administrator to support the day-to-day administrative operations of our production department. The successful candidate will ensure production information remains accurate, maintain documentation, and facilitate seamless communication between teams including production, planning, procurement, and other departments, while operating efficiently in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide administrative support to the Production Manager and production team
- Prepare, issue, and maintain production schedules, work orders, and manufacturing documentation
- Enter and maintain accurate production data within the company’s ERP/MRP system
- Monitor production paperwork to ensure completeness and compliance
- Produce daily, weekly, and monthly production reports and performance metrics
- Maintain production records, including:
- Quality documentation
- Batch records
- Traceability information
- Coordinate with:
- Planning
- Purchasing
- Warehouse
- Quality
- Engineering departments
- Assist with stock control and inventory administration
- Raise purchase requisitions and process production-related documentation
- Schedule meetings, take minutes, and distribute action points
- Ensure all documentation complies with:
- Company procedures
- Quality standards
- Health and safety requirements
- Support continuous improvement initiatives through accurate record keeping and reporting
- Assist with onboarding and maintaining training records for production employees
- Perform general administrative duties to support the smooth operation of the manufacturing department

Essential Requirements (Knowledge/Skills/Experience)
- Previous experience in an administrative role, ideally within a manufacturing or production environment
- Exceptional organisational and time management skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly:
- Excel
- Word
- Outlook
- Experience using ERP, MRP, or manufacturing management systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
- Professional, reliable, and adaptable to work both independently and collaboratively
Desirable Qualifications (Bonus Features)
- Experience with ISO quality management systems
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and production planning
- Familiarity with:
- SAP
- Microsoft Dynamics
- Sage, or similar ERP systems
- Stock control and inventory management expertise
Academic Qualifications
- GCSEs or National 5s in:
- Maths
- English
- A Business Administration qualification would be advantageous but is not essential

About the Project: Port Of Nigg, Highland
Sumitomo Electric is a leading global manufacturer of state-of-the-art high-voltage electricity transmission cables (up to 525kV HVDC), crucial for the future of energy infrastructure.
The new factory at Nigg, with an investment of £350M by the Scottish Government, supports the UK Net Zero target by delivering renewable energy via advanced transmission solutions, including offshore wind connections.
The facility will hire 150+ highly skilled workers in the Scottish Highlands, prioritising local supply chain partnerships in cable production and grid infrastructure development.
