The Production Control function plays a key role in building and controlling the manufacturing schedule, ensuring alignment with customer orders, delivery deadlines, manufacturing needs, and business strategy.

As a Production Control Leader, you will oversee short-term planning, detail scheduling (QTR levels), and coordinate across departments to execute the manufacturing plan. This role requires the ability to address moderate to high-complexity issues while keeping schedules on track. Financial awareness is also essential to support QTR decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule Development: Create manufacturing/production schedules to meet customer demands, drive material requirements, and set optimal output levels proactively.
  • Capacity Management: Ensure shop operation capacities are optimally loaded based on customer and financial (Business + Shop) needs.
  • Scheduling Oversight:
    • Lead daily production control meetings to track progress and highlight deviations.
    • Identify and resolve customer-ordering challenges (e.g., short-cycling, unplanned delays).
  • Performance Reporting:
    • Report on-time performance and coordinate root cause/ corrective actions with Shop Operations Leaders.
    • Monitor manufacturing float and utilisation for accurate forecasting and risk assessment.
  • Collaboration & Issue Resolution:
    • Work with Operations Leaders, Production Managers, and supply chain teams to resolve:
      • Bottlenecks
      • Machine maintenance issues
      • Manpower constraints
      • Tools, program disruptions
      • Inventory capacity impacts
  • Quality & Compliance:
    • Find and rectify inaccurate routings in collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Material Logistics & QC:
    • Ensure raw materials are available from Material Planners and Short-Term Planners while minimizing:
      • QC holds
      • Blend-off waste
      • Returned material
  • Reporting & Strategic Planning:
    • Compile and present quarterly production charts and reports to business leaders.
    • Present production metrics and status updates weekly to top business leaders.
  • Scenarios & Risk Mitigation:
    • Simulate “what-if” scenarios to reduce delivery risks or optimize schedules.
    • Drive continuous improvements in planning and scheduling workflows.
  • Quality & Safety Compliance:
    • Stay informed about EHS + Quality initiatives and procedures.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
