Rate: Up to £550/day IR35 status: Inside IR35 Location: Hybrid working:

  • 3 days per week on site at MOD Abbey Wood, Bristol
  • 1 day per week on site at General Dynamics, Merthyr Tydfil
  • 1 day per week working from home

Overview

Our customer, a large defence organisation, is seeking an experienced Production Engineer to support the Production Pillar within the AJAX Programme. The role supports the Project Manager in the assurance and acceptance of vehicles manufactured by the prime contractor, ensuring engineering issues are identified, managed and resolved throughout the JAG process.

Team Context

The AJAX Programme sits within the National Armaments Director Group (NAD).
Delivered on behalf of DG Material under the purview of Director Land Environment as part of the Land Combat Vehicles Portfolio.
The AJAX team comprises several pillars, each representing a stage in the project lifecycle.
This role sits within the Production Pillar, which is responsible for assurance and acceptance activities for all vehicles manufactured by the prime contractor.
The team is primarily based at the prime contractor’s site and comprises civilian and Army personnel.
The role reports directly to the Project Manager responsible for vehicle delivery assurance and supports delivery of their programme of activity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the point of contact for engineering issues
  • Timely identification and resolution of engineering issues throughout the JAG process.
  • Manage the End Item Data Pack (EIDP)
  • Complete, update and securely store the EIDP to ensure readiness for future audits.
  • Stakeholder management
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with all JAG process stakeholders to facilitate smooth acceptance and issue mitigation.
  • Liaise with production departments
  • Provide accurate updates and information, including concessions and ATT, to support the EIDP and gate reviews.
  • Attend Gate 1-3 reviews
  • Deliver engineering assurance and support to the Project Manager throughout all Gate 1-3 reviews.
  • Sign gate review forms when required
  • Authorise gate review forms promptly in the Project Manager’s absence to expedite processing.
  • Review JAG inspection scripts
  • Ensure inspection scripts and amendments are reviewed and approved for accuracy.
  • Liaise with ATT
  • Address and resolve issues identified during Inspection and Test (I&T).
  • Engage with the AJAX In-Service Team
  • Coordinate with the In-Service Team to ensure vehicles are ready for service.

Essential Skills

  • Experience of a manufacturing and production environment.
  • Familiarity with Army equipment management systems (JAMES).
  • Suitable engineering qualifications and training.

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience as an Army Vehicle Mechanic or Vehicle Engineer.
  • Knowledge of MOD and DE&S organisations and operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of Equipment Support Management and Quality Management.
