Production Engineering Manager 📍 Stevenage, Hertfordshire 💰 £60,000 per annum + Benefits
About the Role
We are seeking a Production Engineering Manager to join a leading advanced manufacturing business operating in a technically-demanding and quality-driven environment.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineering leader with a strong background in electronics manufacturing to combine technical expertise with people management. The role requires a hands-on leader who can work closely with production, quality, operations, and supply chain teams to drive manufacturing excellence, support New Product Introduction (NPI), and develop a high-performing engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Production Engineering team, ensuring technical capability and performance objectives are met.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing processes, equipment, and production methods.
- Provide technical leadership to support production activities while resolving complex manufacturing issues.
- Oversee New Product Introduction (NPI), ensuring robust and repeatable production processes.
- Develop and implement manufacturing processes, work instructions, and engineering standards.
- Collaborate with design, quality, operations, and supply chain teams to enhance product quality, efficiency, and delivery performance.
- Optimise manufacturing processes to achieve cost, quality, and productivity targets.
- Manage engineering projects from concept to implementation.
- Support capacity planning, resource allocation, and manufacturing strategy development.
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions for production and process issues.
- Identify opportunities for automation, process improvement, and operational efficiency.
- Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in a Production Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Process Engineering leadership role.
- Strong background in electronics manufacturing, electronic assemblies, PCB assembly, or electromechanical production environments.
- Team leadership experience in engineering roles within a manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, production engineering principles, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), Design for Manufacture (DFM), and process validation.
- Track record in driving manufacturing improvements related to quality, productivity, efficiency, and cost reduction.
- Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
- Experience collaborating with production, quality, and operations teams to deliver engineering solutions.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on technical involvement when necessary.

Desirable
- Degree qualification in Electronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience in highly regulated industries such as aerospace, defence, medical devices, or advanced electronics manufacturing.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen methodologies.
- Experience managing capital equipment projects and manufacturing technology implementation.
- Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and production planning processes.
