About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and multi-skilled Production Journalist to join our fast-paced ITV News Channel team based in Jersey.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated journalist who thrives in collaboration, loves production, and can bring fresh ideas to air. You’ll have a bulging contacts book, strong editorial judgement, and excellent TV, digital, and social media skills. This role involves producing television and digital news, from live bulletins, hard news packages, to early, late, and weekend coverage.
As a Production Journalist, you’ll:
- Lead bulletin production, ensuring timely, accurate, and engaging content
- Write compliant scripts and treatments for on-air and digital platforms
- Edit visuals and create high-quality graphics for broadcasts
- Curate ITV’s digital offering, including website and ITVX
- Investigate stories, build relationships with contributors, and deliver underrepresented perspectives
- Operate in a live newsroom, adapting to breaking stories and tight deadlines
Key Responsibilities
- Produce high-quality, compliant bulletins across breakfast, late, and weekend slots, directing presenters in live galleries
- Write accurate, engaging scripts with strict adherence to ITV Legal & Compliance, OFCOM, and Ofcom Code guidelines
- Edit pictures and graphics using in-house software to enhance storytelling
- Ensure digital content (website, ITVX) remains relevant and audience-engaging
- Research and generate original ideas that shape the news agenda
- Maintain a comprehensive contacts network for credible reporting
- Exercise excellent editorial judgement, prioritising diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I)
- Work across weekend, early, late, and unsociable hours as dictated by news demands

Essential Criteria
- Fully qualified NCTJ, BJTC, or equivalent journalism training
- Working knowledge of Ofcom Code, Media Law, and compliance standards
- Proven ability to research original ideas for TV and digital output
- Creative storytelling skills for both on-air and online platforms
- Strong understanding of digital newsroom tools and audience engagement strategies
- Exceptional organisational skills to manage multiple stories under pressure
- Exceptional written and verbal communication (grammar and accuracy critical)
- Comprehensive news knowledge covering national and regional developments
- Regional expertise – deep cultural understanding of Jersey, its communities, and their interests

Working Conditions
- Rostered hours include weekends, late shifts (c.23:00 finish), early mornings (c.05:00 start), and Bank Holidays
- Personal transport required to and from Jersey
- Unsociable hours at short notice for urgent news coverage
- Possible ad-hoc travel to news districts, forums, and meetings off-site

Assessment Process
Responding to a fast-paced newsroom is fundamental. Candidates will be assessed during interviews for pressurised decision-making under tight deadlines. Adjustments are available where needed (e.g., sharing interview themes for neurodivergent candidates while still testing newsroom competence).
Notice Period
2 months (aligned with new contracts/secondments).
