Lead Operator

As a Lead Operator, you will play a key role in overseeing production operations within your assigned cell, ensuring that safety, quality, and efficiency targets are met.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on assembly work
  • Monitor and drive Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
    • Throughput
    • Quality
    • Efficiency
    • Yield
    • Downtime
  • Act as first point of escalation for production issues, liaising with engineering, maintenance, and quality teams.
  • Deputise for Team Leader as required.
  • Complete administrative tasks:
    • Audits
    • Reporting
    • Process compliance checks

Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all HSE policies.
  • Promote a safety-first culture and proper use of PPE.
  • Lead by example during safety audits, risk assessments, and hazard reporting.
  • Maintain a safe working environment.

Quality

  • Ensure all assembly work complies with Standard Work Instructions (SWIs) and required industry standards.
  • Conduct and document in-process quality checks.
  • Support root cause analysis, non-conformance management, and driving corrective actions.

  • Deputise for the Team Leader as required.
  • Coach and mentor operators on safety and best practices.
  • Train new employees, including instructing on safety protocols and operational standards.

Process Excellence

  • Track, report, and continuously improve daily production performance through corrective actions and process optimisation.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and audit-ready 5S workspace.
  • Monitor tools, fixtures, and material management.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Industry experience:
    • Prior experience in a full-scale manufacturing environment (preferably automotive).
    • Mechanical or electrical production assembly experience.
  • Leadership & team support:
    • Experience leading, mentoring, or supporting production teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Performance monitoring:
    • Ability to monitor, track, and report on key production metrics and drive efficiency improvements.
  • Problem-solving:
    • Strong capability to identify, escalate, and resolve production issues efficiently.
  • Quality control expertise:
    • Quality control processes:
      • In-process checks
      • Defect management
      • Compliance reporting
  • Technical skills:
    • Ability to operate and troubleshoot production equipment.
    • Read and interpret technical documentation.
  • Due diligence:
    • Strong ability to maintain accuracy, consistency, and traceability in production and reporting.
  • Communication:
    • Strong verbal and written skills for collaboration with team leaders, engineers, and support teams.
  • Office proficiency:
    • Competence using Microsoft Windows and applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Workload management:
    • Ability to prioritise tasks while meeting production goals and deadlines.
