About Yamazaki Mazak
Yamazaki Mazak is a globally recognised leader in advanced machine tool manufacturing, with a long-standing reputation for engineering excellence, precision and innovation.
Based at their Worcester facility, this is a rare opportunity to step into a newly created leadership role, with genuine influence over the future of maintenance and reliability strategy within a world-class manufacturing environment.
This is not a maintenance “support” role—it is a key operational leadership position within the senior production team, shaping how equipment performance, reliability and engineering standards evolve across the site.
The Role
As Production Maintenance Manager, you will take full ownership of the site maintenance function, leading a skilled engineering team and driving a step-change in equipment reliability, uptime and maintenance maturity.
You will be responsible for transitioning the operation from a predominantly reactive model to a fully planned, data-driven and preventative maintenance culture, aligned to best-in-class manufacturing standards.
Working closely with Production, Engineering and Senior Leadership, you will play a pivotal role in improving plant performance and enabling operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, develop and inspire the maintenance team to deliver high performance, accountability and continuous improvement
- Design, implement and embed a robust preventative and predictive maintenance strategy across all production equipment
- Drive measurable improvements in machine reliability, uptime and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
- Own maintenance planning systems, ensuring disciplined execution and high-quality engineering standards
- Use maintenance and reliability data to identify failure trends, root causes and long-term corrective actions
- Manage maintenance budgets, spares strategy and external contractor performance
- Lead cross-functional improvement initiatives with Production and Engineering to optimise plant performance
- Establish and sustain a proactive, improvement-led maintenance culture across the site
- Ensure full compliance with safety, quality and engineering standards at all times

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
