Production Manager – CNC Manufacturing (Precision Engineering)
Cook Compression, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire
An exciting opportunity exists for an established Manufacturing Production Manager or an aspiring Team Lead/Supervisor with a precision engineering background to lead all machine shop operations within Cook Compression’s 8,000 m² state-of-the-art facility.
At this Cheshire-based manufacturing site, you will oversee the full end-to-end production of intricate CNC-machined components, including valves, pistons, rings, rods, and packing cases for reciprocating compressors, supported by 9-axis CNC machining centres and automated processes.
Key Responsibilities
The Production Manager plays a critical role in ensuring cost-effective, on-time, and high-quality manufacture by:
- Driving operational excellence through Capacity Planning, Lean Manufacturing, and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
- Managing labour allocation, workforce cross-training, and team development with a focus on a trust-based communication culture.
- Optimising safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance while contributing to business growth targets.
- Overseeing strategic performance metrics, including:
- +95% On-Time Delivery (OTD)
- Operational Excellence initiatives
- Team productivity and efficiency improvements

What You Will Do
Core Duties & Accountabilities

Safety & Compliance
- Collaborate with the Senior HSE Advisor to develop, implement, and enforce health and safety plans.
- Ensure a zero-incident culture while maintaining 5S/Housekeeping standards.

Capacity Planning & Resource Management
- Leverage Lean principles to optimise labour allocation, machine utilisation, and shop-floor efficiency.
- Embed statistical process control (SPC) for data-driven decision-making.

Production & Operational Excellence
- Achieve >95% On-Time Delivery by eliminating bottlenecks and ensuring seamless workflows.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including machine uptime and throughput.

Continuous Improvement & Project Leadership
- Lead Machine Ox Change (MOC/MOC) and CAPEX projects using Value Stream Mapping.
- Introduce AI/automation advancements as part of technological upscaling.

Strategic Projects & Communication
- Work closely with senior management to identify process inefficiencies and improve machine capabilities.
- Ensure cross-departmental collaboration for seamless production execution.

Requirements
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a STEM-related field (alternative industry experience considered).
- IOSH Managing Safely certification or equivalent safety management qualification.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in production management, preferably in CNC manufacturing.
- Proficient in:
- Lean Principles & Capacity Planning
- Statistical Process Control (SPC) for production analytics
- Continuous Improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen).
- ERP/MRP software (e.g., SAP, Delmia).
- Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for:
- Filterable SPC charts
- Trendlines & Pivot Tables
- Advanced formulas & dynamic dashboards
Desired
- Experience leading change initiatives with measurable outcomes.
- Strong leadership & team development background in complex manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with financial controls for cost optimisation.
