Production Operative

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Desford team in the position of Production Operative.

About the Role

The role holder will play a safe and active part in the Manufacturing process, being responsible to ensure all products presented are of best quality, rejecting unsuitable products, whilst safely maintaining minimum downtime in order to ensure all products are made to their designated specifications, to achieve both the kiln requirements and current safety, output and quality targets.

Duties

  • Carry out all duties safely and effectively.
  • Work and adhere to Forterra health & safety zero harm policy.
  • Start of shift daily safety checks completed and report any issues or defects to the Shift Manager.
  • Constantly monitor each stage of the process to ensure correct operation.
  • Rectify all stoppages/malfunctions, asking for assistance when needed.
  • Ensure all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn at all times.
  • Ensure safety systems and dust extraction units are working correctly where applicable.
  • Ensure operator quality check sheets are carried out and signed off appropriately.
  • Ensure all housekeeping duties are carried out as and when required.
  • Ensure the area that you are working in is clean & tidy at all times.
  • Report all irregularities/health & safety issues to Shift Manager.
  • Follow LOTOTO and relevant safe work procedures when entering guarded areas.
  • Always follow risk assessments and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) provided for tasks.
  • Undertake any relevant training as requested.
  • Always follow Forterra’s Golden Rules.
  • Carry out a shift handover with the opposite shift.
  • Always follow guidance indicated for vehicles & pedestrians on site.
  • Adhere to site code of conduct.
  • Under no circumstances should machinery be operated if any defects are found with either machinery or safety systems. Failure to comply will result in disciplinary action.

About You

The job requires no formal education or qualification, the role does require a minimum of 3 months training from a competent operator ensuring close supervision during the period, and a competency check procedure carried out on all duties.
