Production Operator – Crisp Malt, Ditchingham

Richardson’s UK operations encompass oat milling, malting, animal feed, and ingredient processing. Operating under Richardson Oat Milling, Crisp Malt, EDME, and Micronized Food Products (MFP), we supply the domestic and international food, brewing, and distilling industries.
Job Purpose
The role of the Production Operator is to support the wider production team in producing quality malted ingredients at our Crisp Malt, Ditchingham location.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Health & Safety
- Maintain personal safety and that of colleagues by following Safe Systems of Work, completing required training, and wearing appropriate PPE as needed.
- Report all accidents, near misses, and hazards promptly.

Plant Operation & Process Compliance
- Operate production equipment to achieve optimal performance and meet the production schedule.
- Manipulate plant and equipment to transfer grain between stages: Steeping, Germination, and Kilning.
- Adhere to production process cards, ensuring recipes are followed and process data is accurately documented.

Collaboration & Maintenance
- Work closely with the engineering department to report equipment faults and ensure timely repairs via CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) to minimise unplanned downtime.
- Assist in maintaining production continuity and business resilience through multi-skilling across different plant areas.

Quality & Hygiene Control
- Conduct daily and routine sampling, including visual inspection and moisture content analysis at each production stage.
- Take necessary corrective actions to uphold product quality, ensuring all actions are properly documented.
- Ensure strict adherence to HACCP plans and food safety regulations, maintaining plant hygiene to required standards.
- Carry out daily cleaning duties, such as sweeping and pressure washing, with records completed as necessary.

Performance & Teamwork
- Operate consistently and efficiently, ensuring high-quality output that meets safety and specification requirements.
- Support the day-to-day running of the production department as part of a cohesive team.
- Undergo mandatory training to fulfil key role skills.

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Factory Experience: Practical experience working in a factory environment.
- Communication & Time Management: Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to operate efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
- Shift Readiness: Willingness to work on a rotating shift basis.
Desirable: Experience in food or malting production.
