Location: Stevenage
We are currently recruiting for a Production Process Engineer on behalf of a well-established electronics manufacturing business in the UK. This exceptional opportunity is for an engineer passionate about electronics manufacturing, seeking to drive process improvements, support production operations, and deliver high-quality products across various industries.
As part of a rapidly growing team, you will collaborate closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to optimise manufacturing processes, enhance efficiencies, reduce waste, and assist with the introduction of new products.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include diagnosing and improving manufacturing processes across the production floor and acting as the key engineering liaison for production-related challenges. You will identify root causes, implement solutions, and drive initiatives that support ongoing operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities

Develop, review, and refine manufacturing processes with a focus on maximising efficiency, quality, and productivity.

Provide direct engineering support to production teams, ensuring prompt resolution of manufacturing issues and disruptions.

Lead investigations into process failures, quality concerns, and production bottlenecks:
- Conduct root cause analysis
- Recommend corrective actions
- Implement solutions to resolve repeated problems

Lead continuous improvement projects targeting:
- Yield improvement
- Waste reduction
- Cost savings
- Increased production throughput

Support New Product Introduction (NPI):
- Facilitate the successful transition of new products from design to high-volume manufacturing

Maintain robust manufacturing documentation, including:
- Work instructions
- Process flowcharts
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Engineering change records

Work alongside the Quality team to address:
- Non-conformances
- Customer concerns
- Internal quality-related issues

Monitor and analyse manufacturing performance through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), identifying opportunities for process optimisation.

Validate and implement new equipment, tooling, and manufacturing processes to support operational improvement.

Engage with Lean Manufacturing programmes and Continuous Improvement initiatives such as:
- Kaizen
- Six Sigma methodologies

Collaborate across cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturing processes align with customer specifications, quality standards, and business objectives.

Experience & Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in:
-
Previous experience as a:
- Production Engineer
- Process Engineer
- Manufacturing or Industrial Engineer
-
Hands-on experience in electronics manufacturing, with expertise in:
- PCB (Printed Circuit Board) assembly
- SMT (Surface Mount Technology)
- Electro-mechanical component fabrication
-
Proven track record in:
- Supporting production operations
- Driving process improvements and efficiency gains
-
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to address complex production challenges.

Proficiency in:
- Lean Manufacturing principles
- Six Sigma methodologies
- Kaizen techniques

Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, enabling effective engagement with:
- Production teams
- Quality and engineering teams
- External customers and suppliers
Ideally, you will hold a relevant degree in engineering (e.g., mechanical, electrical, manufacturing), or possess significant experience through an alternative pathway. Additional certifications in quality management or process optimisation (e.g., Six Sigma) are highly beneficial.
