Hays are partnering with a leading food manufacturing business to recruit a Production Supervisor. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced production professional to lead and develop operational teams within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising day-to-day production activities, ensuring operational efficiency, maintaining quality and food safety standards, and driving continuous improvement across the production function.

Your new role

Production & Operational Management

  • Supervise daily manufacturing operations to ensure production targets are achieved safely, efficiently, and to specification.
  • Support both day and night shift operations and ensure adequate resource coverage across all production days.
  • Create and manage daily, weekly, and monthly labour and production schedules.
  • Monitor production output and ensure maximum productivity is maintained at all times.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve efficiencies, reduce waste, and increase profitability.
  • Monitor and record line performance, downtime, breakdowns, and production losses.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, motivate, train, and develop factory operatives to maximise performance and engagement.
  • Promote a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration across day and night shifts, encouraging a "One Shift, One Team" approach.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching sessions, and training activities.
  • Manage attendance, timekeeping, and employee performance in accordance with company policies.

Quality, Food Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all products are manufactured to the required quality and food safety standards.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, hygiene, and GMP throughout the factory.
  • Monitor compliance with HACCP, BRC, Health & Safety, and company quality procedures.
  • Make decisions regarding corrective actions, non-conforming products, process deviations, and customer complaints.
  • Ensure accurate completion and maintenance of production and quality documentation.

Health & Safety

  • Promote a strong Health & Safety culture throughout the production area.
  • Ensure all staff adhere to company safety procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Report and investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses in line with company procedures.
  • Support risk assessments and continuous improvement initiatives relating to workplace safety.

Reporting & Communication

  • Maintain accurate production records and prepare reports for management.
  • Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) including productivity, efficiency, waste, downtime, quality, and labour utilisation.
  • Communicate operational issues and improvement opportunities to senior management.
  • Liaise effectively with Maintenance, Quality, Warehouse, and other departments to ensure smooth production operations.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Previous experience in a Production Supervisor, Manufacturing Supervisor, Team Leader, or similar role.
  • Experience working within a food manufacturing or FMCG environment.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Knowledge of food safety, quality standards, and health & safety legislation.
  • Experience managing KPIs, productivity targets, and labour planning.
  • Ability to solve problems and make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Competent IT skills and experience maintaining production records and reports.

Desirable Criteria

  • Food Safety, HACCP, or Health & Safety qualification.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement experience.
  • Knowledge of BRC standards.
  • Supervisory or management qualification.
