Our Equipment & Technology Division is a small to medium, high-expertise team that develops and supplies physical modelling technology for hydraulic, marine, and coastal research facilities. With over 70 years of experience in our own modelling projects, our designs are rigorously proven and have been shared globally for 30 years. We’ve supplied equipment to 300+ institutions worldwide, including:
- Wave generation systems
- Absorbing beaches
- Tidal generators
- Towing carriages
- Instrument positioning systems
- Force-measuring equipment, dynamometers
- Remote platforms
The Role
We’re recruiting two Production Technicians (based in Wallingford, Oxfordshire) to support our engineering solutions, technological development, and portfolio growth. You’ll build physical testing equipment with precision, collaborating closely with design, engineering, and field staff in a world-leading consultancy environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Constructing physical testing equipment for hydrodynamics, coastal, or marine applications
- Assisting in the manufacture of custom mechanical/electro-mechanical systems tailored to technical specifications
- Building and installing innovative components, such as actuator systems, sensor rigs, and prototypes
- Providing laboratory and field support, including testing and troubleshooting under controlled environments
- Collecting data to inform product improvements and contributing to research projects
- Adhering to rigorous quality, safety, and documentation standards

About You & Your Qualifications
Essential Criteria
- Formal training in mechanical or electrical engineering (e.g., apprenticeships, HNC/HND/BTEC)
- At least 2 years’ experience in small-to-medium-scale manufacturing, assembly, or production environments
- Proficiency with mechanical/electro-mechanical systems, including components like motors, bearings, seals, or servo drives
- Ability to interpret technical plans documentation and read engineering drawings
- Practical, hands-on honing of craftsmanship (e.g., fabrication, machining, or assembly)
- Attention to detail, teaching problem-solving ability, and an interest in technical innovation
Advantages
- Experience with data acquisition sensors, automation, or testing routines
- Familiarity with design software tools or CAD systems
- Experience supporting a teams or research-oriented workload
- Background with customer-facing roles (support or commercial)
