About The Role
Boeing Defence UK’s System Safety and Environmental Engineering Team is seeking a System Safety Engineer to join our collaborative environment. In this role, you’ll:
- Utilise industry-leading tools and methods for system safety and hazard analysis, defining safety requirements that meet regulatory standards.
- Collaborate cross-functionally and with external stakeholders to manage safety across the product and service lifecycle.
- Develop robust safety arguments and draft safety cases, using Goal Structuring Notation (GSN) or Claims Argument Evidence (CAE) for assurance and certification.
This is a detail-oriented role for a professional who thrives on solving complex challenges. As a BDUK System Safety Engineer, you’ll support Boeing’s sustainment programmes for UK defence, ensuring safety in life-critical products and services.
Responsibilities
Key Duties Include:
- Conducting system safety assessments using hazard analysis techniques, including FHA, FTA, and Bowtie analysis.
- Developing safety arguments and certification packages aligned with defence and aerospace standards (e.g., Def Stan 00-56, MIL-STD-882E).
- Supporting sustainment programmes across the full product lifecycle, ensuring compliance with UK defence operational requirements.
- Liaising with internal engineering teams and external customers to integrate safety engineering best practices.
- Contributing to risk assessments and mitigation strategies for defence sustainment and training operations.

Qualifications & Experience
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science degree in:
- Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology),
- Computer Science, Data Science,
- Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, or an equivalent qualification.
- Proven background in a safety-critical and regulated environment (e.g., aerospace, defence, rail, automotive).
- Strong knowledge of Def Stan 00-56 and MIL-STD-882E or related safety standards.
- UK National status, with eligibility for Security Clearance (SC level).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Training in safety analysis methods: FHA, FTA, Bowtie analysis.
- Ability to plan, execute, and meet deadlines with budget and schedule constraints.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external clients.
- Proficiency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong technical communication skills to articulate complex safety findings to diverse stakeholders.
Work Environment

- May require occasional UK or international travel.
