Field Service Engineer (Brentwood, Essex)
You will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing a range of Canon Production products, including:
- Cut-sheet inkjet
- Continuous-feed inkjet products
- Toner mono and colour devices
- Controllers
- 3rd party and Canon pre/post equipment
at customer sites.
Your role requires skilled fault diagnosis, remote/in-person installation, and providing excellent customer service to minimise operational disruption for clients.
Key Responsibilities
On-Site Service & Repair
- Diagnose technical faults and implement solutions efficiently, minimising downtime.
- Aim for a high first-time fix rate, ensuring optimal cost-parability for parts and time.
- Maintain ownership of return-to-fix (RTF) tasks, communicating effectively across all stakeholders to resolve issues promptly.
- Use remote tools to monitor device performance, prevent incidents, and streamline troubleshooting.
- Escalate appropriately according to protocols and document escalations to ensure quick resolution.
Installation & Setup
- Install and configure new equipment at customer premises, ensuring perfect functionality.
- Provide training and instructional support, including setup, network configuration, and device operation.
- Conduct user training sessions on maintenance and operation best practices.
- Support large-scale installations as part of project teams when required.
Customer Service
- Be the professional face of the company on-site, offering a friendly, proactive demeanour.
- Communicate clearly with customers regarding repair/installation status and technical advancements.
- Offer technical guidance to optimise equipment use.

Parts Management
- Identify and order spare parts cost-effectively, ensuring accurate documentation.
- Maintain stock levels and perform inventory checks (SAPO/regular audits) to support uptime.
- Return unused/obsolete stock in line with company policies to avoid CEL charges.
- Utilise spares escalation processes for critical issues requiring urgent attention.
Reporting & Documentation
- Complete service reports and updates on job status via field service management systems (e.g., ADAM).
- Record detailed feedback on recurring issues to help proactively resolve them.
Compliance & Safety
- Adhere to industry standards and health & safety guidelines.
- Ensure all technical tasks align with regulatory requirements.
Continuous Improvement
- Stay informed about industry trends, new technologies, and best practices.
- Engage in ongoing training and professional development.
Requirements & Skills
Essential Qualifications
- Proven field service engineer experience (or comparable role).
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Basic IT/networking knowledge for equipment connectivity.
- ** Desire for a career in the print industry** is advantageous.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Valid driving licence and readiness for travel.
- Health & Safety awareness (including product safety checks).

Highly Advantageous
- NVQ or equivalent qualification in mechanical/electrical disciplines.
- Additional IT certification (e.g., basic computing qualifications).

Salary & Benefits
- Salary Range: Up to £35,273 (dependent on experience/env).
- Company Car and 25 days’ annual leave (excluding bank holidays).
