About the Role

The Targeted Youth Support team, part of Lancashire County Council's Children and Family Wellbeing Service, is looking to recruit a permanent full-time 37-hour (JNC qualified) Professional Range Youth Worker to work across Preston & South Ribble district. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, organized, and passionate about making a difference and changing young people’s lives.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the prevention and early intervention/early help agenda for Lancashire County Council.
  • Deliver targeted prevention and early intervention work to ensure young people get the help they need early and reduce the necessity for higher cost specialist intervention.
  • Provide high-quality informal education opportunities to promote personal and social development.
  • Support young people who are challenged in education, their communities, or home life to ensure a successful transition to adulthood.
  • Work in a variety of settings, including youth clubs and in collaboration with schools and other agencies.
  • Report to a Team Leader and work closely with other youth work staff and volunteers.
  • Design and develop youth work responses underpinned by the 4 cornerstones of youth work: equality, participation, education, and empowerment.
  • Deliver youth work responses to targeted young people to enable them to broaden their horizons and involvement in positive activities.
  • Establish and develop relationships with 11- to 19-year-olds and up to 25-year-olds for young people with vulnerabilities.
  • Deliver preventative programmes, evidencing learning outcomes, and delivering to targets.
  • Work in group settings and deliver one-to-one sessions to identified individuals.
  • Quickly establish positive relationships with diverse groups of young people and partners.
  • Respond flexibly to their needs and to the priorities of the service.
  • Good IT, organization, and communication skills are essential.

Requirements

  • A nationally recognised JNC qualification for Youth and Community Workers.
  • Be working towards the qualification or have a wealth of youth work experience and be willing to undertake the study to gain the qualification whilst in employment with Lancashire County Council.
  • Access to a vehicle is essential.
