About the Role

Core Responsibilities

Are you passionate about rehabilitation? Could you help people make meaningful and sustained changes in their lives?

If so, a career as a Programme Facilitator in the Probation Service is for you.

This role supports people who have perpetrated domestic abuse, sexual abuse, or committed violent/acquisitive offences.

Key Duties

  • Deliver groupwork and individual interventions to offenders subject to Community Orders or monitored after prison release.
  • Lead a range of Accredited Programmes and Structured Interventions designed to:
    • Reduce reoffending.
    • Address harmful attitudes and behaviours.
    • Support pro-social life skills and wellbeing.
  • Work with high-risk individuals, including those convicted of sexual and domestic abuse offences.
  • Conduct sessions during evenings and at various regional locations (travel expenses claimed).
  • Monitor progress, risk, and wellbeing; keep accurate records and share insights.
  • Collaborate with courts, criminal justice agencies, Probation Practitioners, and Domestic Abuse Safety Officers.
  • Provide workshops/briefings to staff and external stakeholders.
  • Apply pro-social modelling to encourage positive behavioural change.

Recruitment Process

How to Apply

  • Complete a short application form addressing:
    • 2 Civil Service Behaviour and
    • 1 Experience-based question(s)
  • All applicants are sifted post-deadline.

Assessment Stages

  1. Screening → Invitation to interview.
  2. Interview + Facilitation Exercise (10-min presentation on a given topic).
    • Focus areas: Communicating and Influencing, Developing Self and Others, Managing Quality Service.
    • Note: Candidate selection may prioritise one lead behaviour if volume is high.

Selection Criteria

  • Evaluates apäments: HIV, ** verified post-interview only if invited;
    • Band behaviours across the Civil Service Success Profile.

Training & Programme Entry

  • Successful candidates undergo:
    • Extensive training (theory and programme delivery).
    • 6-month probationary period (Manchester courts): assessment including a formal evaluation with application-led training.
  • Completion ofobligatory\ security checks (criminal record verification and Baseline Personnel Security Standards).
