I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Plan & prioritise: Adjust an evolving blueprint into credible plans, sequencing, and measurable outcomes as scope shifts.
- Manage dependencies: Understand and trade-offs across engineering, data, product, and business functions, making hard decisions on what to prioritise.
- Proactive delivery:
- Anticipate blockers, force key decisions, and **chas[**e work—without falling into premature tactical execution.
- Resist pressure to commit teams before plans are set.
- Operational rhythm: Lead a lightweight steering cycle that leadership trusts and engages with.
- Ensure open information flow: Senior stakeholders receive decision-ready status and risk, while delivery teams get crystal-clear context—no surprises.
- Accountability: Hold senior leaders and program owners to their commitments and escalate risks with judgment.
What Success Looks Like
- Early: Understand the program’s landscape and dependencies, communicate an honest risk assessment, and earn stakeholder trust.
- Mid-term: Establish a steady planning/steering/reporting rhythm that remains reliable for leadership while proactively managing dependencies before they derail plans.
- Long-term: Meet program success metrics on time, with the quality needed to achieve business objectives.

- Holding leaders accountable while keeping collaboration productive.
- Clear written communication trusted by senior teams.
