Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is offering a fantastic opportunity to join the Wessex Cancer Alliance Neighbourhoods and Living with and Beyond Cancer Team as a Project Manager.
Main Duties & Key Responsibilities
This is an exciting and dynamic role consisting of two main elements:

Leadership of the Personalised Stratified Follow-Up (PSFU) Programme
- Responsible for delivering PSFU across Wessex, involving:
- Facilitating agreement on treatment eligibility, stratification, monitoring, and escalation protocols through tumour-specific clinical groups
- Managing competing perspectives to reach consensus on clinical approaches
- Supporting the implementation of agreed models, establishing governance and tracking mechanisms
- Providing system-wide oversight of delivery, risks, and progress
- Collaborating with clinical, operational, and digital teams across multiple organisations to expand PSFU into new tumour pathways and consolidate existing ones
- Responsible for delivering PSFU across Wessex, involving:

Support for the Prehabilitation Programme
- Coordinate activities with the clinical advisor and wider programme team
- Work across organisations to implement pathway and service changes
- Foster cross-sector collaboration (acute, community and voluntary services) to achieve programme objectives

Key responsibilities include:
- Using programme and project management expertise to lead delivery of key workstreams
- Facilitating stakeholder agreement on protocols, pathways, and system-wide improvements
- Collaborating with clinical, operational, and system stakeholders to manage change effectively
- Working alongside multi-disciplinary teams to monitor progress, mitigate risks, and ensure smooth implementation
- Building trust-based relationships to drive consensus and maintain alignment
- Ensuring patient-centred design and engagement at every stage to improve outcomes, experiences, and equity.
- Representing the team regionally and nationally within the wider Wessex Cancer Alliance, influencing cancer care improvements
What We’re Looking For
Essential Criteria
You will need:
- Significant experience in service improvement or transformation in cancer or long-term condition settings, with a focus on Living With and Beyond Cancer.
- Proven ability to apply quality improvement and service redesign approaches across diverse projects.
- Strong ability to work autonomously with minimal direction, shaping projects towards goals.
- Demonstrated leadership potential and a commitment to improving cancer care, driven by a strong vocational sense.
- High resilience for navigating challenging stakeholder discussions, mitigating risks, and resolving conflicts.
- Availability to travel frequently across Dorset, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight for on-site stakeholder engagement.
Person Specification
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience
- Educated to Masters level or equivalent experience at the senior healthcare level.
- Membership of a relevant professional healthcare body (where applicable).
- Knowledge of project management/quality improvement techniques, with a track record of successful change shifts.

Essential Skills
- Project management qualification (e.g., Prince2 Practitioner) or equivalent proven capability.
- Strong intangibility and public communication skills.
- Proven senior-level experience in healthcare or industry.
- Demonstrated evidence of leading change, influencing behaviour, and collaborative working.
Experience & Competencies
- Structured project management experience with effectiveness in large-scale projects.
- Previous experience in quality/service improvement environments.
- Ability to collaborate across boundaries, forming effective relationships with diverse health sector roles.
- Delegation skills – know when to take initiative and when to empower others.
- Ability to analyse complex or sensitive information and present it to stakeholders.
Desirable Criteria
- QSIR College Associateship *(Quality Standards Institute for the NHS and Social Care)
- Coaching qualification/teaching experience
- Clinician influence experience*(expertise in supporting and guiding healthcare professionals)*
The Wider Team
The Neighbourhoods and Living With and Beyond Cancer (LWBC) Team supports:
- Prehabilitation
- Personalised follow-up service enhancements
- Improved hospital-to-community care transitions
Working with the Wessex Cancer Alliance, the team champions innovation and improvement in cancer care to serve Dorset, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight. The role is full-time (37.5 hours per week) with a hybrid working model (minimum 2 on-site days per week, either in Southampton or Dorchester).
£51,744 – £63,994 pro-rata
