About the Role
Newcastle University is seeking a Programme Manager to join the School of History, Classics, and Archaeology in facilitating the next phase of the RICHeS-funded project: Transforming Access to Mediterranean Cultural Heritage Science Collections.
This exciting opportunity represents a collaboration between Newcastle University, the British School at Athens, the British Institute at Ankara, and the British School at Rome. The team developed a versatile heritage science collections management system, enabling previously unavailable heritage science collections to be hosted and shared efficiently. In the next phase, the project will:
- Extend digital humanities capabilities
- Structure digital data for online accessibility
- Benefit researchers, educators, and the public
The Programme Manager (PM)—based at Newcastle University—will:
- Drive the intellectual and research agenda alongside the Principal Investigator (PL)
- Oversee governance of the shared infrastructure
- Coordinate engagement with stakeholders and prospective partners
- Support communication and outreach activities
- Ensure financial reporting, progress tracking, governance, and project planning
- Maintain coordination among multiple international institutions
- Manage risk, issues, and progress reporting
- Collaborate with the Education Access Research Associate and Digital Access IT Lead to:
- Increase accessibility to the infrastructure
- Track impact
- Identify new funding opportunities
- Develop educational resources

- Leadership in multidisciplinary project coordination

Key Accountabilities
- Collect, analyse, and interpret research data to derive conclusions
- Coordinate individual work with collective project objectives, utilising problem-solving and planning
- Present research progress and outcomes to Principle Investigators (PIs) or governing groups
- Disseminate findings in formats such as reports, papers, or chapters
- Manage use of applicable research resources (e.g., laboratories, workshops)
- Track programme components across academic, heritage, and educational sectors
- Identify funding opportunities to expand education access capabilities
- Procure and communicate with external partners to boost infrastructure adoption
- Collaborate on the project’s dissemination strategy
- Propose technical/methodological enhancements to project execution
- Evaluate findings to guide future investigations
- Communicate research outcomes at conferences or publish in peer-reviewed outlets
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Digital Humanities expertise
- Interest in machine-readable data and AI-powered learning applications
- Budget management experience
- Programme Management professional track record
- Keen attention to detail and ability to deliver precise outputs
- Ability to present complex information to diverse audiences (e.g., media, stakeholders)
- Strong skills in:
- Analysing data and summarising results
- Collaborative teamwork
- Proficiency in office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Research-focused creativity and problem-solving abilities
- Research environment awareness
- Experience in:
- Conference presentations
- Publication in reputable outlets

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Heritage Science (or related field)
- PhD in Cultural Heritage Science preferred (or near completion)
