Job title: Programme Manager - Digital, Data & AI

Base: Health Innovation KSS's primary place of business is The Beehive, located in Gatwick/Crawley, West Sussex. Contractually, this will be your normal place of work.

Salary: £55,000 to £60,000 (1.0 FTE)

Contract: 37.5 hours per week, 12-months FTC

Location: The role is predominately remote, although Health Innovation KSS works on a hybrid basis. Post holders are expected to be based in, or be able to attend meetings in the Kent, Surrey, Sussex geography.

Reports to: Director for Digital, Data & AI.

Job Purpose

Working as part of the Commercial team within Health Innovation, providing operational management role for a portfolio of fee-based digital, data and AI programme areas.

  • Supporting the Director for DDAI in scoping fee-based work to support NHS providers across the region.
  • Leading teams (including associates) to deliver fee-based DDAI programmes
  • Delivering programmes of DDAI work
  • Supporting colleagues across the organisation to deliver the spread and adoption of DDAI innovation into practice, developing the innovation eco-system and pipeline.
  • Making a contribution to the income generation pipeline to generate income for Health Innovation KSS to ensure long-term sustainability by:
    • Contributing to bids or grant applications
    • Working closely with Director of DDAI, Heads of Portfolio, Associate Directors and Directors to support and facilitate:
      • The development of new service offerings for our stakeholders and ensuring that a clear customer focus is maintained
      • The cultivation of existing customer demand through the marketing of existing service provision
      • The cultivation of new customers through service development opportunities.

Key responsibilities

You will:

  • Support the operational implementation of the KSS Digital, Data and AI strategy.
  • Provide robust, pragmatic programme management to Health Innovation KSS DDAI fee-based services. You will support the Director for Digital, Data and AI to deliver a range of services including, but not limited to:
    • Support NHS provider organisations to assess and improve their digital and data innovation adoption readiness,
    • Facilitate the implementation and adoption of digital technology solutions partners from readiness assessment through to deployment and evaluation.
    • Work with NHS boards and senior leaders to build understanding, confidence and responsible governance frameworks for AI adoption.
    • Support partners to embed sustainable user-centred design and change management practices to support digital and AI implementations.
    • Coordinate the Equity Charter Diagnostic, supporting digital teams to assess and address equity considerations within their digital transformation programmes.
    • Act as an operational point of contact for NHS provider organisations, ICS teams and partners engaged in the DDAI programme across Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
    • Be responsible for the production of, and input to, informal and quarterly performance reports covering DDAI programme activity, outputs and impact.
    • Build strong operational working relationships with digital leaders across the KSS geography to support delivery of their DDAI priorities.
    • Support the development of new fee-based DDAI service offerings and contribute to income generation activity, including scoping packages of support for NHS providers, and identifying opportunities.
    • Stay abreast of national policy, guidance and investment relating to NHS digital transformation and AI, and apply this knowledge to programme development and stakeholder engagement.
    • Have operational oversight of programme budgets and, where appropriate, process expenditure and liaise between the programme team and relevant management functions.
    • Work closely with Health Innovation KSS colleagues, NHS England regional teams, and external partners (including analytics and evaluation partners) to support achievement of the aims of the DDAI strategy.

Essential

  • Experience of leading or supporting digital transformation programmes in health or a related sector, including working with clinical and operational teams to implement technology-enabled change.
  • Experience of applying user-centred methods to digital innovation and/or transformation programmes.
  • An understanding of NHS technology architecture and key digital systems.
  • Knowledge of the NHS digital landscape, including NHS England’s digital and data priorities, and relevant national programmes (e.g. Frontline Digitisation, NHS AI Lab, Copilot).
  • Experience of working with data, including data quality, data infrastructure, analytics, or data-driven improvement, in an NHS or public sector context.
  • Understanding of AI and machine learning as applied in healthcare settings, including associated governance, ethical and equity considerations.
  • Ability to translate complex technical and digital concepts for non-technical clinical and leadership audiences.
  • Experience of engaging and influencing senior stakeholders, including board-level leaders and CIOs, in the context of digital change.

Desirable

  • Experience of implementing or supporting Ambient Voice Technology, Electronic Patient Record systems, or other clinical and/or back-office digital tools.
  • Familiarity with AI governance frameworks and clinical safety standards relevant to healthcare AI (e.g. DCB0129/0160, NHS AI governance guidance).
  • Experience of equity-focused approaches to digital transformation, including understanding of digital exclusion and health inequalities.
  • Experience of user-centred design and change management methodologies in the context of digital or technology implementation.
  • Knowledge of health data standards, interoperability frameworks (e.g. FHIR, SNOMED CT).
  • Experience of income generation or commercial development in a health innovation, consultancy or digital health context.
