Role Description

The Programmer Setter Operator (CNC Milling) is a full-time, on-site role located in the Greater Cambridge Area. This role involves programming CNC milling machines using appropriate software, setting up tooling and fixtures, and operating machines to produce precision components to specification.

  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Selecting correct materials and cutting parameters
  • Performing in-process inspection to maintain quality standards
  • Troubleshooting machining issues
  • Making adjustments to programs and setups
  • Collaborating with the engineering and production teams to optimize workflow and throughput
  • Maintaining equipment
  • Following safety procedures
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of machining processes

Qualifications

  • Skills in Computer Science and Software Development suitable for understanding and working with CNC programming software and related digital tools.
  • Skills in Programming and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) to create, modify, and optimize CNC programs efficiently.
  • Skills in Back-End Web Development where relevant to integrating CNC systems with production management or data collection platforms.
  • Experience with CNC milling programming (e.g., ISO code, CAM software), machine setup, and operation in a precision engineering environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, use precision measuring instruments, and apply quality control standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work safely in a workshop environment.
  • Prior experience in a similar CNC machining role and relevant technical or vocational qualifications in engineering or machining are highly beneficial.
